Skip to comments. The case for polygamy (Why shouldn’t marriage equality apply to them, too?)
Posted on 06/27/2013 8:59:20 AM PDT by SeekAndFind
Discussing the Supreme Courts decision on gay marriage recently, Sen. Rand Paul joked about bestiality. This was unwise. If Paul wanted to make the slippery slope argument, the case for polygamy is much more compelling and realistic.
This is not some straw man argument. As BuzzFeeds McKay Coppins pointed out, polygamists are, in fact, celebrating the courts decision. And they have every reason to do so. After all, why shouldnt marriage equality apply to them, too?
The arguments are essentially the same. For example, Sen. Al Franken recently issued a statement saying, Our country is starting to understand that its not about what a family looks like: its about their love and commitment to one another. Polygamists couldnt agree more.
I mean, who are we to say that two or three or even four consenting adults who want to make a lifelong commitment to love one another shouldnt be allowed to do so?
Whats magical about the number two?
In fact, you could argue that there is an even better argument for polygamy than for same sex marriage. For one thing, theres a long tradition (just look at the heroes of the Old Testament.) Its also intimately tied to religious practice, which means that by prohibiting polygamy, we might also be undermining the free exercise thereof.
Why should we impose our values on others?
Now, you might say that there is historical evidence to support the fact that polygamy is bad for women and children. This is sophistry. The truth is that right now about half of all marriages end in divorce, and lots of kids are already struggling, so its not like traditional marriage is a panacea. Besides, nobody is forcing you to be a polygamist. This is a choice.
There are practical reasons, too. Its harder and harder these days to make ends meet. As a man, I can only imagine how much more efficient it would be to have one wife in the workforce and another wife at home with the kids. This would be much better for the children than shipping them off to some nursery school. And having three parents is a lot better than having just one or none.
So I think we should embrace this new world. This seems like a win/win/win if you ask me.
Polygamy has been far more prevalent than the recent invention of gay marriage throughout over 6000 years of recorded human history.
I don’t see how you could deny this. This ruling really opens pandora’s box on the family structure in the once great U.S.
It opens the door for Islam’s support of multiple wives along with Mormonism if they want to bring that back.
I think it could even knock down barriers on age limits for relationships.
It’s gonna be a mess.
And all is proceeding as I have predicted. And it took less than 24 hours for the polygamy people to start making comparisons and asking why they can’t have multiple wives? Actually, there is historical precedence for polygamy, unlike homosexual marriage. I have posted previously, that if there is nothing special about marriage being between one man and one woman; then, what is so special about the number two?
If the Democrats think an issue will get them votes, they’re all for normalizing it. So, no beastiality isn’t out of the question.
I don’t know if polygamy will be the next great “civil right movement” with respect to marriage or not. I do know that human nature is such that every limitation will be pushed, and that success breeds further pushing.
There will be many more redefinitions of marriage to come, and all will compete to be the basest, most vile forms of perversions yet. I have no prediction which, because I don’t have the kind of mind that invents that sort of thing. But someone does, and it will come.
Once you begin the process of redefinition, it doesn’t stop until there is any definition is totally meaningless. Goodbye marriage forever.
Barack Hussein Obama, Sr. was a polygamist, was he not?
And his rather silly piece overlooks the real motive behind homosexual "marriage:" the total destruction of the institution of marriage itself. Reductio ad absurdam. The United States has "progressed" back to paganism.

> So, no beastiality isnt out of the question.
Neither is paedophilia.
It’s your kids they’ve wanted all along anyway.
The gay marriage thing was really just a camel’s nose under the tent for paedophilia.
NAMBLA is probably celebrating, too.
I love my truck - why can't I marry her and get Obamacare to pay my mechanic's bills?
Don't be an "auto-phobe"....
Not trying to be a smart-alec, but not what homo marriage is the law of the land, polygamy is no big deal. At least IMHO, polygamy is within the correct two sexes. If you were to argue for poly-gay marriage, I’d agree that’s a notch lower on the perversion scale.
What is the difference a man having a wife and a mistress and Polygamy.
Certainly Polygamy will either be approved in the near future or we will se the hypocrisy of this ruling.
The democrat candidate's father was a practicing polygamist of a polygamy religion, and the republican candidate was a bishop in a religion where his great grandfather had practiced polygamy, and in fact left America to preserve his church's practice.
I remember reading in the local newspaper (some 15 or more years ago) about some guy here in the US who wanted to marry his car. The court he petitioned turned him down. No joke!
I really like steelhead trout.
Why can’t I marry them all?
Obama told us he would change America....Rush Limbaugh said he hoped Obama would fail...Obama has succeeded beyond his and our enemies wildest dreams...We cannot lose the Congress and must take the Senate in 2014.
Pay close attention to the MSM and what they are pushing....rebut where ever you can...(remember) these Americans, 'carry' them with you always...Love and Honor America as never before while this fraud in the White House tries to move Americans to the left and deprive you of your civil rights and your United States Constitution....America First Always! Obamaphiles Be Damned!
Japanese Man Marries Pillow
A 28 year-old man from Japan has fallen in love with and married his ‘dakimakura’, which is a large pillow that usually has the face of an anime character drawn on it. The particular pillow he fell for had a picture of Fate Testarossa, who is a character in the anime series called ‘Magic Girl’.
In the Old Testament, the punishment for homosexuality was death. The punishment for polygamy was multiple mother-in-laws.
Did his mother object to the marriage?
All of them!?! Even a guy name Miltie might have a hard time satisfying all of them.
“...communism abolishes eternal truths, it abolishes all religion, and all morality...Abolition of the family !...we destroy the most hallowed of relations...The bourgeois clap-trap about the family, about the hallowed co-relation of parent and child, becomes all the more disgusting... “

How about a way to get around inheritance laws? Marry your son or daughter? Besides, Muslims are into incest anyway.
It will. AS so will “marrying” dogs and horses and sheep...and getting “spousal” employer benefits. Rush called this over 15 years ago.
The inevitable push for polygamy is one of the reasons that I could not support Mitt Romney for president.
Lev 18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it [is] abomination.
Lev 18:23 Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it [is] confusion.
Re the discussion on polygamy, I suggest considering instead the idea of multi-party marriage contracts made for business and financial reasons. And not merely one-marriage with many partners, but many-to-many marriages, all for business and financial purposes.
For example, I’d marry my adult children for health insurance purposes.
For example, I’d marry, for a fee, a million subscribers who would share my insurance coverage and tax benefits.
For example, I’d marry into one set of partners for purpose A, and marry into other sets of partners for purposes B, C, D, and E.
I’d like to see a conservative group take the lead on this.
I’ve changed my mind - I favor ‘marriage’ between any combination of living things.
“Ive changed my mind - I favor marriage between any combination of living things.”
But I want to marry my Stratocaster! Who are you to deny the love between a man and his guitar?
If the government would get out of the marriage business ie: tax exemptions, bennies, etc. none of this would be an issue.
How would you deal with the issues of divorce, custody of children, support of spouses and children?
That is an entirely different issue.
We’ve destroyed the institution of marriage. We might as well end governmental recognition of marriage. Just let churches handle it.
I'm not sure how that would work.
Now come on, let’s not blame something on Romney over which he has no control over...
Well; GOD did seem to mention it at one time; to one fella...
THE BROTHER OF NEPHI
25 Wherefore, thus saith the Lord, I have led this people forth out of the land of Jerusalem, by the power of mine arm, that I might raise up unto me a righteous branch from the fruit of the loins of Joseph.
26 Wherefore, I the Lord God will not suffer that this people shall do like unto them of old.
27 Wherefore, my brethren, hear me, and hearken to the word of the Lord: For there shall not any man among you have save it be one wife; and concubines he shall have none;
28 For I, the Lord God, delight in the chastity of women. And whoredoms are an abomination before me; thus saith the Lord of Hosts.
29 Wherefore, this people shall keep my commandments, saith the Lord of Hosts, or cursed be the land for their sakes.
30 For if I will, saith the Lord of Hosts, raise up seed unto me, I will command my people; otherwise they shall hearken unto these things.
31 For behold, I, the Lord, have seen the sorrow, and heard the mourning of the daughters of my people in the land of Jerusalem, yea, and in all the lands of my people, because of the wickedness and abominations of their husbands.
32 And I will not suffer, saith the Lord of Hosts, that the cries of the fair daughters of this people, which I have led out of the land of Jerusalem, shall come up unto me against the men of my people, saith the Lord of Hosts.
1 Timothy 3:2-3
2. Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,
3. not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.
A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household well.
An elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient.

Polygamy has always existed. Homosexual marriage has never existed. And does not exist.
Not any more, Jack!
Biblically; so is homosexualism.
The NATURAL man does ALL of these things...
The argument for polygamy is much, much stronger than for homosexual “marriages”.
And the fact that there is an absolute and worsening shortage of boys who have been trained up to be husbands, while the desire to become a wife remains very strong, makes the sexual economics of the situation a re-inforcing principle.
Polygamy will be legalized within 24 months, if not sooner.
Why privilege sexual relationships, other than Sex being the god of our age?
Why should people whose primary attachment is not sexual be denied federal benefits? Everyone is entitled to (at least) one significant other.
Oh oh... SOMEone is in BIG trouble!!
"Now if any of you will deny the plurality of wives, and continue to do so, I promise that you will be damned;
and I will go still further and say, take this revelation, or any other revelation that the Lord has given,
and deny it in your feelings, and I promise that you will be damned.

How far has our collective ignorance (nurtured by "educational" and media Communist propaganda) spread? I just saw this headline on Beck's "Blaze:"
Rasmussen: 26% of Obama Supporters (And Shocking Number of Govt Workers) See Tea Party as Nations Top Terror Threat
The difference is that the mistress causes heartbreak, divorce, and fatherlessness, while polygamy does not.
