The star prosecution witness took the stand in a Florida courtroom for a second day Thursday as George Zimmermans attorneys tried to demonstrate that her story about hearing the prelude to the defendant's fatal confrontation with Trayvon Martin has changed over the course of the last year.
Defense attorney Don West grilled Rachel Jeantel about a letter she had a friend write for Martin's parents in the weeks after the February, 2012 incident, describing the phone conversation she had with Martin as he walked from a convenience store in Sanford, Fla., back to his fathers fiancees home in a gated community. West pressed her on what he indicated were inconsistencies between the letter and Jeantel's subsequent depositions and testimony - in particular her recent revelation that Martin told her he was being followed by a "creepy-ass cracker."
"Why wasn't 'creepy-ass cracker' in prior interviews?" asked West, one of the attorneys for Zimmerman, who is facing a charge of second-degree murder.
"Nobody asked me," replied Jeantel, who said she can't read cursive, which the letter is written in.

HLN had a poll. I think 56% said she was good for the defense, 33% good for the prosectution, 11% didn’t know.
As I understand it, the prosecution demanded only one charge, placing all their eggs in one basket. And it’s a charge that will be quite difficult to get a unanimous guilty verdict on.
My admonition to folks in Florida, warn the prosecuting attorney, and mayors in the area, any office holders in the area, any racial or religious leaders in the area, and any other category I may have overlooked, if they come out and criticize the verdict and a riot breaks out, they will be prosecuted to the full extent of law for incitement and contributing to incitement to riot.
That happened in Los Angeles. Lesson learned!
Put these ass-hats on notice.
I shudder to think what Obama will say if a not-guilty verdict comes down. Members of Congress will spout off too.
It could get very ugly, and I don’t think there’s a prayer of convicting Zimmerman here.
...first thing she’s done to improve her look...
Hell, 11% think Michael Jackson may have done it.
I still do not understand why they (prosecution) did not prepare her for the stand.
Oh, wait they knew they had no case, that’s why they called her.
Words she can spell, Oprah, Obama..., that’s about it.
It’s only 65/45 she can spell the name of Oprah’s magazine, “O”.
Note also that Martin was face down. GZ apparent crawled out and left the body in position.
Too early to get too confident, but I am hopeful that justice will be served.
Fascinating to read the live chat going on accompanying this video on one source.
There are people who have already got Mr Z convicted and hanged, and who think that the defense needs to give this young woman a break. And then there are people who passionately see this totally in the reverse.
Looks like another wedge splitting our country down racial lines.
A truly low information voter. God save the Republic.
>>BTW...”can’t read cursive”? She never heard the word cursive before the prosecution told her about it.
Exactly my thought.
i think michael jackson did it he is one creepy ass cracker
I’ll bet they’ve grilled her for months...
Not trying to be overly insulting to the young woman, but there’s only so much you can do if the person can’t absorb what you’re trying to teach.
Another miracle of our education system. I guarantee you she knows that homosexual marriage is a civil rights issue though.
Only the NSA can see that jpg on your hard drive.
She probably thought it meant foul mouthed language when she first heard it.

[and 11% couldn’t read the question.]
