Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan said Thursday that she expects Gov. Pat Quinn to rewrite a compromise measure to legalize the concealed carrying of firearms in public.

Madigan, speaking at a luncheon discussion hosted by the pro-Democratic women's campaign fund EMILY's List, also said female political candidates need to show voters they can be tough in making hard decisions. At the same time, the wife and mother of two children said being actively involved in family will help "soften you" in the public's mind.

The Governor can rewrite legislation and then sign it into law?!? So much for the separation of powers, but I wouldn't expect much more from the cesspool that is Illinois government.

“female political candidates need to show voters they can be tough in making hard decisions”.

Typical nonsense statement, and considering where it comes from nothing more need be said.

The bill passed by veto-proof majorities, and the court has already granted several extensions. He could veto it, but the result isn’t likely to be what the gun-banners are hoping for.

Lisa Madigan's "dad" (he adopted her when she was 24). USED to be a 5-star pro-life pol in the mid-eighties. Now she's taking EMILY's List money.

I didn't think it could get worse than Blago/Quinn. but LM as gov with "daddy" running the legislature means anything outside of cook county gets completely steamrollered by the combine.

I am glad we will be moving to Walker's Wisconsin next month.

Nope. Whatever changes or amendatory vetoes Quinn sends back, the votes are there to dump all that and go with the original bill. So this is theatre. Quinn wants to stay gov, and has to look like he’s not afraid of the NRA etc to keep his base in tact, but without derailing on other issues like pension reform, which arguably could help him with a much larger constituency. And if he stalls too long, or kills the deal now in principle agreed to by all parties, we go to constitutional carry, which would be a disaster for him, highlighting the perception of him as incompetent. So he’ll probably shred the bill, just in time for Madigan & company to come through with a veto override.

Meanwhile in Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford counties, all in central Illinois, the prosecutors have announced and it has been relayed to police forces, that they will not prosecute people for carrying concealed.

Wow, I didn’t realize she was a wife and mother. I honestly thought she was a lesbian (maybe because she always marches in the Chicago queer parades)

From the Comments section of that paper”
“. . . From what I understood, if he VETOs the bill it can be over-ridden by the votes in the legislature. If he AMENDATORY VETOs it, it’s put on hold until later in the year like October-November before anything can be done. . . .”

Is that last viable? These people will do ANYTHING to delay the inevitable.

Lisa Madigan's "dad" (he adopted her when she was 24).

I knew she was adopted but didn't know she was 24 when that took place. What's the story behind that?
