Snowden's father offers deal in letter to Holder By Justin Sink - 06/28/13 01:03 PM ET

The father of Edward Snowden has proposed a deal to Attorney General Eric Holder that he says could convince his son to return to the United States.

Lonnie Snowden said his son, Edward, would likely come back to America if he were promised that he could remain free prior to trial, not be subjected to a gag order and be tried in a place of his choosing.

He also proposed that if those terms were violated, the government should agree to dismiss charges against Edward, a former defense contractor who admitted to leaking information about top-secret National Security Agency programs.

"With these written representations and guarantee, Mr. Snowden is reasonably confident that his son could be persuaded to surrender voluntarily to the jurisdiction of the United States to face trial," wrote Bruce Fein, the Washington attorney for Snowden's father, in the letter to Holder that was obtained by CNN.

Edward Snowden is thought to currently be at the international terminal of the Moscow Airport, where he arrived last weekend after fleeing Hong Kong. He has reportedly requested asylum in Ecuador.

The Justice Department did not immediately return a request for comment.

Asked about Snowden on Thursday, President Obama said he would not engage in “wheeling and dealing and trading and a whole host of other issues, simply to get a guy extradited so he can face the justice system here in the United States."

Lonnie Snowden said he has not spoken to his son since April.

"I love him, I would like to have the opportunity to communicate with him. I don't want to put him in peril, but I am concerned about those who surround him," he said in an interview Friday with NBC News.

I think they should just let him rot in Russia. That’s what we did when two other NSA turncoats defected to there. One of them wanted to come back but we told him to rot.

I still think the good he did in revealing the unconstitutional spying on Americans outweighs the harm he did by letting China know we were spying on them.

Entrusting 0bama and his Marxist minions with top secret clearances has done more damage to our national security than Edward Snowden ever could.

If you're talking about Obama, I agree with you. If you're talking about Snowden, I do not.

Somebody correct me if I’m wrong, but if he’s in the international arrivals area, then he’s not technically in Russia... or any other country right now. Can’t we have a few agents go get him and ‘escort’ him to a flight to Washington?

Agreed on the latter, but I think Leavenworth’s a bad idea for the former.
Treason of that sort ought to be a public hanging; then politicians would finally understand how “not amused” we are.

That's called kidnapping, and he'd be seriously justified in killing the escorts by the I was in fear for my life defense.

Okay, though I admit having thoughts about having stronger crimes committed against Snow-job in this case.

Holder, Jarrett and the usurper should be busting rocks. Snowden should be the guard ordering them to bust some more.

Old school thinking here: this is a case where critical national secrets have not only been compromised, but are being revealed with no conscience involved about the possible implications or consequences. Let me put this plainly: it is very likely that people actually supporting the United States will die because of what this rogue is doing.

So yeah - if we actually had a real President who cared about things like this, we wouldn't be talking about leaks like this weeks after the initial event. Instead, he would have been found and dealt with - one way or another. You deal with treason directly and swiftly. If not, then you have no security at all. Ever.

Exactly. Since when do suspects have the right to demand things? Whether one supports what Snowden did or not, he made a choice and now he has to deal with it.

Problem, we have had treason going on at the highest leves for a long time in the US. And there has not been any sort of dealing with it swiftly...or at all.

Not seeing that Snowdon revelations will compromise anyone.

However the information does compromise the US leadership.

His dad is a smart political operator.

Return with NO GAG ORDER...?? Such a deal struck with NarcoGunSmuggler ERIC HOLDER...?

This dad UNDERSTANDS his proposal will be rejected indeed it was DESIGNED to beRejected.

The impending rejection makes them look bad, and bad is what Holder has been since birth.
