When I lived in LA in the late 80's, I'd get calls offering free subcriptions and I'd turn them down. I'd tell the caller to call back when the Times became a newspaper and not a leftwing rag. A month later, I'd get another call and repeat the conversation.

At that time, I subscribed to 2 newspapers, a national newsmagazine and other publications. Today, I subscribe to none. If they lost a newsjunkie like myself, they've lost everyone.
