Obamacare Ruling: Religious Employers MUST Provide Birth Control Coverage
NewsMax ^ | 06/29/2013 | Todd Beamon

The White House ruled Friday that employees of religious-affiliated, nonprofit institutions would receive insurance coverage for birth control under Obamacare, ensuring more legal challenges to the rule.

"[Friday's] announcement reinforces our commitment to respect the concerns of houses of worship and other nonprofit religious organizations that object to contraceptive coverage, while helping to ensure that women get the care they need, regardless of where they work," said Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

Early last year, the Obama administration said that universities, hospitals, and other employers with a religious affiliation could avoid paying directly for contraceptives.

Under that Obamacare arrangement, insurance companies would instead provide coverage and pay for it.

The rule requires an institution's health insurer or third-party insurance administrator to notify employees about birth control benefits and provide beneficiaries with direct payments that cover the cost of contraceptive services.

The announcement by Sebelius puts into effect a requirement that has been beset by more than a year of talks between administration officials and religious employers.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and other denominations oppose contraception on religious grounds and have protested against the requirement, along with conservatives.

"We have received and started to review the 110-page final rule," New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the conference’s president, said in a statement. "It will require more careful analysis. We will provide a fuller statement when that analysis is complete."

While the rule took effect on Jan. 1, the White House gave nonprofit employers five more months to adjust to the new regulations by having them apply to plans beginning on or after Jan. 1 of this year.

Other employers have been required to make contraceptive coverage available to their workers since last August.

Meanwhile, women's advocates applauded the decision as a milestone

I see condom machines in bathrooms all the time. Isn't that enough? OH! I forgot. Killing your baby *is* contraception in newspeak. Abortion for convenience. How could I forget that? My bad.

This is interesting. It MUST be a very important issue to administration and I can think of only two reasons. The first is more obvious, that is, a direct attack on more orthodox Christian religions. But the second (which is probably related to the first) is even more ominous to me. I think part of the intent is to continue to support the demographic changes taking place due to reduced procreation in what has traditionally been the US power base. Taking a long term view or attempting to accelerate that view with these policies, gives the appearance that there is a conscious effort to support our enemies by assuring that they will come to “out populate” us. That Muslims would be exempt supports this view. There could be REAL evil at work here.

If employees of religious-affiliated, nonprofit institutions would receive insurance coverage for birth control under Obamacare, what’s to stop them from being forced to provide coverage for gay partners?

Obama’s promise to recognize the Constitutional rights of religion didn’t last long—one day?

Isn’t there some sort of go-around procedure whereby Americans could exert their will? Aside from torches and pitchforks, that is. Mass protests? Referendum? Cutting off the allowance of the governing class?
No, I guess not. And in the absence of any such procedures, we must assume the consent of the governed.

RE: Isn’t there some sort of go-around procedure whereby Americans could exert their will? Aside from torches and pitchforks, that is. Mass protests? Referendum? Cutting off the allowance of the governing class?

This assumes that there is mass outrage at a ruling like this.

1) Most Americans don’t even know of this ruling. They are the Low-Information Voters.

2) Even if some of them knew, many WILL NOT CARE. They will reason that they don;t use contraception, or they’re not business owners, etc.

3) Religious Employers (those that are big enough to pay for healthcare coverage) are not rich, powerful or as many as we expect them to be.

The only institution I see with enough clout to fight this is the Roman Catholic Church.

As for the Roman Catholic laiety supporting the church, forget about it. The Majority voted for Obama last November.

They want Catholics to choose between their job and their faith.

And the religion of peace is exempt.

Clear?

Seems like when judges rule against the Constitution(s), we are expected to roll over and take it. When they rule pro-Constitution(s), the government feels no need to obey the law - trouble is brewing whether the People stand up and stop taking it in the @$$, or if they just roll over - either way there will be government on the People violence.

Health Savings Accounts would take both companies and government out of the equation and allow the individual to make both health and spiritual decisions for themselves and their family.

If only there was a party that would be advocates for freedom and individual responsibility.

The Majority voted for Obama last November.

Based on unscientific, unreliable exit polls which utilize, at best, suspect methodology.

Obama: ‘If Catholics (and Protestants) Have Their Schools ... That Encourages Division’

WHAT DID YOU EXPECT ?
This address to the Irish during his stay in europe for the Summit 8 conference might make it to the national scene but our media will sit on it.

The democrat party after taking complete control even when losing the House in 2010 thanks to the opposition by loosely organized groups known as the tea party. The word and reference to GOD was removed at their 2012 national convention. A fact that went un-noticed, un-touched, un-mentioned, and un-used by the RINOS and GOPES (GOP elite snobs) who are running todays Republican party.

Even after reconsideration the decision was derided by the majority because it was re-installed over a majority voice vote supporting the removal.

If this were a political party in a parlimentary system it would be hyphenated and would (and should despite the difference) be refered to as the Demo-Com party. But the RINOS and GOPES can’t even call them “socialist”.

Any Catholic or Christian claiming to belong to this party is a hyprocrite and should be confronted and isolated with disgust and distain. It’s time to understand and face the facts that everything that has been edicted and ruled since that time including discarding the traditional concept of marriage has come out of the closet. They must be refuted.

It MUST be a very important issue to administration and I can think of only two reasons.

The two reasons you've listed, johniegrad, are valid and significant, but I have a hunch they're secondary rather than primary. I believe these are closer to the core of leftist extremist intentions:

1.) The commoners need to learn the state—and only the state—has the power to define moral values and decide social questions. Opposition needs to be be silenced.

2.) Killing, whether of unborn babies, freshly born babies, old people, or anyone else, is the state's legitimate means of population management, and again, opposition must be silenced.

Despite emperor 0bama's edict, apparently the courts have ruled that they do not have to comply:

(CNSNews.com) – Following on yesterday’s 10th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that Hobby Lobby can continue its lawsuit against the Obama administration’s contraception mandate on religious grounds, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma ruled today that the federal government must halt all enforcement of the mandate (and related financial penalties) against the Christian-based company. - See more at: http://cnsnews.com/news/article/court-gov-t-must-halt-enforcement-sterilization-contraception-abortifacient-mandate#sthash.2Mf2dQoF.dpuf

Why are our religious freedoms even a matter for discussion?

Should be no surprise here.

After the 2008 election, Valarie Jarrett, a member of Obama's transition team appeared on Tom Brokaw's Meet the Press and said, "It is important that President-elect Obama is prepared to really take power and be ready to rule day one."

What could be clearer? /s

The executive agency, HHS, promulgated a rule. That is what was meant. They followed all normal procedures.
