The Enduring Mystery of Barack Obama
Power Line ^ | June 30, 2013 | John Hinderaker

Posted on 06/30/2013 7:12:44 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Under our Constitution, unlike a parliamentary system, the chief executive has no direct relationship with Congress. He can, of course, veto legislation, but historically the president’s power has been judged to be largely a function of his personal stature. To the extent that a president holds sway over Congress, it is because he is popular with voters.

The odd thing about Barack Obama is that he has never been a popular president. Yet somehow he was re-elected, and he continues to be taken seriously as a political force. This chart shows President Obama’s Approval Index, as measured by Rasmussen Reports, from his inauguration to the present. The Approval Index simply measures the difference between the number of likely voters who Strongly Approve and who Strongly Disapprove of the president’s performance. If the index is negative, it means that more voters Strongly Disapprove than Strongly Approve:

Currently, Obama’s standing with voters is poor. His overall approval stands at 46/53, and the Approval Index, which measures intensity as well as overall approval, is worse at 22/43, a dismal -21. Nearly half of all voters strongly disapprove of Obama’s performance in office.

This is not a function of the scandals that have bedeviled Obama’s second term. On the contrary, a plurality of voters have strongly disapproved of his performance since 2009, when it became evident that he would govern as a leftist. As the 2012 campaign approached, his Strong Approval percentage predictably rose, as Democrats rallied to their candidate, despite the misgivings that had been evident throughout the first term. Still, on election day the Approval Index was substantially in the red. Following Obama’s re-election, his critics gave him a second honeymoon as Strong Disapproval dropped briefly. But that, of course, didn’t last: Strong Disapproval is now back to a heavy plurality at 43%, and the Democrats who rallied to Obama’s support during the election campaign have fallen away.

These numbers tell a story that has never been adequately reported upon. From the beginning, Obama has been trying to take Americans in a direction where they did not want to go, and they–by far the largest number of Americans–have been resisting strongly. And yet Obama has achieved a considerable degree of success in moving the country leftward. Not only that, he got himself re-elected, seemingly against all odds. How has this been achieved with so little popular support? Isn’t there a reporter somewhere who would like to take a closer look?

Probably not. In addition to the free pass that all Democrats get from their fellow Democrats in the press–pretty much all reporters and editors are Democrats; the exceptions are so rare as not to be worth mentioning–Barack Obama has gotten a special exemption due to his status as the First Black President. But we are now going on five years into his administration, which has been, by any rational accounting, a disaster for the United States. Do those who interpret events for the average citizen seriously believe that at this point, Obama’s skin color is the most pertinent fact about him? If so, what does that tell us about our national press? If not, then what can possibly explain Obama’s seeming ability to defy gravity; to be fawned over, five years on, even as a substantial plurality of voters say he is doing a lousy job? Isn’t there a story there somewhere?

I think it’s an indication of a couple of things. Voting for Obama because he is black, and weak Republican candidates and campaigns.

Plus an unmatched political machine comprised of unions, both public and private, the stupid and uninformed, the press, huge computer bases and heavily financed special interest groups who are ready willing and able to push doorbells, pass out leaflets and disrupt events that they do not agree with. The Republicans have virtually none of these assets. True...its Chicago style but hell man...it works.

Exactly. It isn't rocket science. Euro-Americans, "Legacy Americans?" Whatever, are so desperate to "do the Black a solid," they just cannot help themselves.

And the eGOP is so enamored of being part of the priesthood they apparently could care less if they end up never better than minority leaders... just so long as their friend's kids get into Annapolis and the White House returns their calls.

The rest of us are just "eaters."

The Republicans will always be playing defense as long as they lack the courage of their convictions.

The curse “racist” is as foul a charge as any racist epithet.
I have lived in black communities and been considered a black leader by those who only heard of my exploits. The charge “racist” makes me bristle with indignation.
I do not feel guilt or shame or even some residual acknowledgement when confronted with the charge “racist.”
I am angry and indignant that anyone could so vilely besmirch my character with a patent lie.
So it is with most Americans. We are not a racist people.

It's the handouts. No parasites are going to vote to leave the host and the relatives, friends, and associates of the parasites don't have the heart to remove the parasites.

The GOPe ran another Liberal and the voters chose the real Liberal. There is no opposition party.

Unchecked spending and government growth. New parasites are added every day.

Lil Barry isn't that special and is a phony media creation. Replace Soetoro with any 'Rat and the result is the same.

Sometime in the future, 35 or 40 years, the historians that want to tell the REAL truth about this era, will talk about how the 2012 election was rigged and how foreign powers called the shots. They’ll also admit that 0bama was a total fraud and absolutely NO ONE in congress or the courts even challenged him. I’m just afraid that this will be part of the obituary for the USA.

Demographics. The US is about 35 percent color. Blacks 13 percent, Hispanics 14 percent, Asians 3 percent, Arabs 2 percent, Jewish 3 percent. Blacks vote 90 percent for Obama, and the rest 67 percent. Do the math. Color/Jewish is 20 percent (11 + 9 + 2 + 1 + 2). Leaves about 65 percent whites to decide. Half is women (32) which 2/3 like Obama yielding another 20 percent and Obama now has about 40 of the 53 popular vote he won with. That means the remaining 13 percent came from white men. White men and Jews are the dumbest. Dems are anti Israel (look at DNC convention bbong of Israel) and Dem policies come at the expense of white men. Given the same numbers, if 90 percent of the white men voted for GOP and keeping everything the same, Obama/Dems would lose because white men would provide 28 percent of the vote to the opposition and 4 percent for Obama (40 + 4).

“To the extent that a president holds sway over Congress, blah, blah, blah .....”

.... is relevant only in the case of a president that seeks to “govern” through an elected legislative body.
This president’s preferred mode of “governing” is to rule through Executive Edict, and We the People seem to have no recourse, the Congress being evidently unwilling to defend its constitutionally mandated prerogatives, or having no mechanism for doing so short of Impeachment, which requires (1) Courage and (2) the Will to Act.

Too right..."ping" to check back...

It is many things, but some can be changed...it's not yet too late to counteract the "Chicago-style politics", or continue to educate/inform the electorate...

nobama won the first time because low info voters are dumb and succumbed to his happy talk.

nobama won the second time due to voter fraud. His minions had four years to figure out how to pull it off and they did a great job.

“The only mystery is how this POS was ever allowed to become President.”

Sen. Tom Colburn on the Judiciary Committee failed (refused?) to vet Obama. Why? They even passed a special resolution saying others once thought ineligible were in fact eligible (a lie). They all knew.

It was a coup by ??? and enforced by the Chicago mafia. Chelsea was said to be threatened if Hillary refused to give up her delegates the morning of the nomination. She would not let her supporters file a lawsuit. Why?

It was a coup, and Obama is a muslim/commie/sodomite hired to bring America down every way he can. War on morality, war on military, war on economy, war on savings, war on Christianity, war on energy so we keep the Saudis wealthy, war on first amendment, war on second amendment, war on border control, war on patriots, etc. etc.

I believe the expression, “None so blind they will not see...” fits here. Ask a couple simple questions and the answer is fairly obvious but one that the Brown Shirt Media will not go near. 1)How does a _resident get elected when most of the electorate disapproves of him and a significant number strongly so? (The Limbaugh Doctrine notwithstanding.) 2)Is there proof the Rats have been stuffing ballot boxes and other chicanery for decades? 3)Did Axelord admit to using “tech” to take the game to a whole new level? 4)Is it true that Bozo won by 200,000 votes in 5 key states?
It would seem to be a simple as putting the puzzle pieces together to look like the picture on the front of the box.

Well we all know McStain threw the election. It was very obvious. Everything was set up to fast track an unknown candidate straight into the Whitehouse. I personally believe that the GOP leadership is in on this whole takeover. They are only concerned with carving out a seat at the totalitarian table.

..... LOL ... it's almost five years since the initial event and the political experts are still doing a post mortem on why the country fell to socialism. The stakes were never higher and we knew it .... yet we still let the country fall to that which we feared most.

... Strangest thing of all though ... it all happened without even one shot being fired.
