Posted on 07/01/2013 4:36:07 AM PDT by bestintxas
Now that the Senate has passed comprehensive immigration reform, the action shifts to the House of Representatives. Here the GOP's informal "Hastert Rule" requires Speaker John Boehner to have majority support among Republicans before he will bring legislation to the floor for a vote. That means an immigration bill will need a far greater share of Republican House members than the Senate version received (where fewer than one-third of Republicans voted "aye").
This is a tall order. But it is one to which House Republicans should respond.
No Republican would vote for legislation that stifled economic growth, promoted illegal immigration, added to the welfare rolls, and failed to ensure a secure border. Yet they essentially will do just that if they fail to pass comprehensive immigration reformand leave in place a system that does all of those things.
To grow economically, the nation needs more young workers, as the population is aging and its growth is slowing. Yet only 13% of the immigration visas each year are issued for work or special skills. Nearly two-thirds go to relatives of existing residents, under an expansive definition of family preferences that includes not just spouses and minor children but parents, siblings and unmarried adult children.

Go away! No more Bushes.
Go home, Jeb.
We DON’T want you.
14 Republican Senators just did.
I see that here in Maryland. Was this dreamed up in the 1980s?
What is never discussed is enforcement of present laws, drying up employment opportunities for illegals so they will leave of their own accord.
A mental midget could handle this problem.
Jeb Bush. A thinking man’s approach to the continuance of this RINO’s political life.
Who says the House needs to take up ANY immigration bill? That’s Obama’s agenda.
Enforce existing immigration law.
No more Bushes.
Jeb Bush: A Republican Case for another candidate
I don’t know about anyone else, but I am already sick to death of seeing jeb bush this or jeb bush that or jeb bush PERIOD!!!
What IS it about these people that do not seem to understand the meaning of HELL NO???
Hey Jeb, quit abortion and promoting gays. That right there is why the population of natural born Americans is dying out. Neither of those things replenish the population.
We don’t need a bunch of uneducated border invaders for anything.
Jeb, we want illegal immigration under control....e-verification that is verifiably inforced...before we’ll even discuss legalization. That’s the deal. Anything less than that is you and your politician friends selling out our country for personal gain and power. How stupid do you think we are?.
I’ve said it before - the Bush family would be nothing in politics without Ronald Reagan yet they show no gratitude to him or his core supporters (only about 90 percent of Republican voters). George, Sr. could not win a Senate seat in Texas; he had been a congressman in a safe seat and held a series of appointive posts but never won anything statewide until he hung on Reagan’s coattails. When Reagan was inaugurated, his first official act was to pardon FBI officials who had wiretapped the WeatherUndeground - it was meant as a contrast to Mr. Carter’s first act as “president”, which was to provide amnesty to Vietnam draft dodgers. Bush, Sr., on the other hand, having been elected on the basis of providing Reagan’s “third term” (which he promptly abandoned) gave an inauguration speech trying to distance himself from Reagan on a series of issues - one line in there was that there was “a statute of limitations for the Vietnam War” - in addition to being a slap at Vietnam veterans (by making a comparison to “criminal” activity), I always thought it was a riposte to what Reagan had done as his first act so that George could ingratiate himself with the “better” people of Georgetown by telling them, in so many words, that he is really on their side.
I will never again vote for another Bush - they have been a disaster for the nation and for the Republican Party.
1965 Immigration Act
This includes "open season" being declared on anyone trying to cross the border illegally. (I actually see a tourist industry for people wanting to do some "combat" experience with live targets)
We'll deal with the northern border at such time it becomes a problem.
(3) A process is in place to guarantee that only applicants who can immediately contribute to these United States are allowed in.
(4) A process is in place to gaurantee that NO immigrant will receive any federal benefits until they have been here (and contributing) for at least 25 years.
Once all that is in place I have no problem with immigration.
Enforce existing immigration law.
Y E S!
These idiots behave and talk AS IF the US had no immigration law up to the present.
We DO! And if the existing laws would be ENFORCED... there would be no need to jack around with THIS monstrosity... as if IT or any part of it would be enforced better or more efficiently than previously enacted LAWS have been!!
All this new, proposed law does is assure more government interference with our lives and increase government control on everything.
The elites want slaves.
Jeb married a Hispanic so now he wants us all to get screwed by them.
The only Growth the immigration bill give to us is a growth in the Hispanic population, which will grow welfare and free health care.
What is really need is a bill that will force Napolitano to enforce our current laws.
Jeb Bush: A Conservative case for another political party
A “Republican” case. Not a “Conservative” case.
A vote for immigration reform is a vote for amnesty. No matter the provisions put in place to avert that, those provisions, just like our current laws on the books, will be ignored while the legalization process will move forward at lightening speed.
We’ve been fooled before. The GOP-e needs to understand that there is a line in the sand here. We won’t be fooled again. Sell out our values, our culture, our heritage, and our founding principles, and you will be dead to us.
Hannity asked Ryan the other day if he was concerned that “immigration reform” would create a civil war within the Party. This isn’t some concept limited to FR. They know. They do.
The GOP-e is torn between its donors and its base (not the same people). They are trying to walk a thin line. If the GOP-e is bound and determined to put its donors above its base in order to pass amnesty, then the Party is done.
In 2006, amnesty was defeated because the establishment rightly determined that their base would cry out louder than their donors. Since then, the establishment has demonized the base in their own minds. The propaganda attack they’ve waged with Rubio, Rove et. all and bought with Zuckerberg’s money and ads should tell you how the GOP-e views this. They’re all in for amnesty this time, base be damned.
Amnesty will destroy the GOP. Not in 20 yrs. In 2014.
What happens when “Where else do conservatives have to go?” is answered by, “Go to hell!”
Passing amnesty is a declaration of war. There’s a rebellion brewing.
It’s going to be fun watching y’all bash tubby bush now only to end up carrying his water in 3 years.
That's it. The issue is settled. Just like the liberal oppressors say Climate Change is 'settled.'
All the 'ills' Bush cites as reasons for 'comprehensive immigration reform' are the wounds and scars this country bears because it abandoned the battlements of our sovereign borders and deserted its obligation to enforce EXISTING LAWS!
Jeb Bush, Mario Rubio, and any other appeasing misguided opportunist hopelessly wishing that Hispanics will vote Republican if we 'only' did blah, blah, blah......
They are self-aggrandizing traitors, nothing more.
I bet Jeb did not write one word.
No more bush clan... your daddy is a one world order progressive... your brother screwed us up so badly that he pushed 53% of America into obama’s arms and now you want to turn us into a third world evacuation port. No more bush family ruling over America... ever! MAMMA GRIZZLY PARTY JEB... just keep it up jerk.
It’s all about amnesty, chain migration and dem voter registration. The rest is window dressing.
Don’t forget the airports. The NYC metro area is awash in foreign born people. Asians, white people, black people; sure Hispanic people too, but many of them are Puerto Ricans and hence Americans. The whites, etc. are not coming in via the southern border.
I’m not saying these people have all entered illegally, but I’m sure quite a number of them have.
Uhuh. Meanwhile in reality land, observe the subprime a$$paper that effectively did all of the above.
How's that making the grass grow on W's Ameriquest Field [Ranger Stadium] these days, Jebster?
“Amnesty will destroy the GOP. Not in 20 yrs. In 2014.” This.
Maybe Jeb ought to go kiss the feet of Benghazi Hillary again and tell everyone how great and worthy she is. That’ll show everyone how bipartisan he is!
Just like Dole, McaCain, and Romney.
They know damn well what the certain result of importing tens of millions of poverty stricken non-english speaking third worlders will be, and they know that while Americans will surely suffer, they think they will somehow personally benefit.
Lots of cheap labor that will keep the Chamber of Commerce types contributing to our campaigns.
THAT is the Republican case for immigration “reform”.
To grow economically, the nation needs more young workers, as the population is aging and its growth is slowing.
The black youth unemployment rate is now something like 40% (in some cities it's close to 50%). One would think that would be a cause for concern, but I guess to Jeb and his WSJ buddies at the country club, those kids simply don't exist...
Actually, Jeb, one-third of Senate Republicans did just that last week. You're just too dishonest to admit such.
“Maybe Jeb ought to go kiss the feet of Benghazi Hillary again and tell everyone how great and worthy she is.”
The elite give each other awards and exalt each other. There is no difference in agenda between D & R, only in implementation details.
We need a second party to oppose the ruling Democrat-Republican Party.
Umm, Jeb, you happen to look at youth unemployment recently? It is horrible; less than half of the youth population even indicates it wants a job, a third are bothering to look, and of that third, only 3/4's can find a job.
Is that because businesses are discriminating against youth employment? Nope, it's because the jobs that they would normally start in, the jobs that many Americans started in, are occupied by the vast population of illegals - yard work, scut construction jobs, dish washing, etc. And jobs they might step up into are also occupied by even more illegals - landscaping, framing, table clearing.
And if, let's say amnesty passes, and maybe this time more than 40% of the illegals go on the path to citizenship, they'll occupy the next few rungs of the ladder, giving room to more illegals to occupy the bottom jobs.
To top everything off, if it is anything like last time around, the majority of those who will apply and stick out the amnesty process will not seek to climb the economic ladder, but instead seek to climb the welfare ladder. Any illegal 50 or older would be an utter fool not to get in line to rob us, as of course they will qualify for social security, checks that will continue even if they return to their native countries for retirement.
Jeb, what we need is enforcement of existing laws, to re-open the job market to our youth. We don't need more amnesty, we don't need more direct immigration.
Sorry JB...no sale.
You forgot that the conservative electorate has the ability to think.
“No Republican would vote for legislation that stifled economic growth, promoted illegal immigration, added to the welfare rolls, and failed to ensure a secure border. “
Hey Jeb, they just did that in the Senate.
Don’t piss on my leg and tell me its raining.
You and your country clubber pals won’t and don’t have to deal with the crime wave, higher taxes and wage depression this garbage legislation will bring.
It does those things because the current laws are not being enforced and with little bammy, are being totally ignored.
So the answer is to create a new set of "laws" that removes the penalties of the old laws and presto, we will then have a "system" that works?
The new system simply makes it totally legal to allow the criminal behavior?
Democrat logic at it's finest...
I’ll risk the flamage due to come my way by saying something positive about Jeb.
My caveat is that I *do not* agree with the current immigration bill and believe that if the House is to do ANYTHING on the subject, it must be a piece meal approach. One bill sent to the Senate dealing ONLY with security. If/when that is resolved in favor of a tightened border and ONLY after that goal is accomplished (that’ll be after the Clown occupying the Oval Office right now is GONE) then we take up the status of current illegals....okay?
Now, with that caveat, I’ll say this for Jeb...he was a very good governor in Florida. He served two terms, did a better job than most governors...and the state only went downhill when the clown Charlie Crist took his place.
Jeb is a decent chief executive, focused in the years since on education, and would be a better president (in my opinion) than his brother.
Although I do concur with most here that dynasties like this are not necessarily healthy for the Republic, and I would like to see a non-Clinton and non-Bush on the ballots next cycle.
I guess I’m just saying Jeb isn’t a demon, that’s all. And I saw him govern.
” I guess Im just saying Jeb isnt a demon, thats all. And I saw him govern.”
Anyone who tries to ram amnesty down our throats is a traitor to the United States.
These are the same people who heard the screams “Hell no!” about Romney. We got him anyway.
So if you are or were in TX, would you be for George P. for land commissioner or a Democrat?
So Reagan was a traitor?
Immigrants are more fertile and they love families and they have more intact families and they bring a younger population, he continued, calling for a more economically focused immigration policy and saying immigrants create an engine of economic prosperity.
Jeb, tell that to my triplets, who graduated with HONORS in May, 2012, from their respective universities, in very marketable majors. You see, our “very fertile” family can’t find full-time work, with benefits, but wake up every day at 4am to wait at the pick-up spots where contractors will gab some cheap labor. But my kids never get picked up. In fact, the illegals there openly mock my kids, calling them names like “Gringo”, then laughing and saying things like, “Whats matter, Gringo can no find job?” It’s pathetic.
And what “Skin in the game” has this “President” ever had? Did he serve in the military? Did anyone in his family ever serve? Did anyone in his family ever serve and take a bullet for the USA? The answer is a long and emphatic NO NO AND NO.......
So you are correct, this President has not had any skin in the game that is the US of A, and he does not know or appreciate OUR culture and OUR heritage.
Exactly. This guy Jeb Bush is supposedly one of the “smartest” the RINO have to offer, yet he comes out and disparages Americans, saying we are not as fertile, not as productive, as our illegal immigrants? Who in their right mind would vote for somebody that openly and freely mocks them? It is extremely difficult to understand why anybody would see this Jeb Bush as a bright bulb given these comments. He has not offered a “sincere” apology for making these comments,,so look, he believes what he said. RINO, you need to do better than this.
