A Nation of Mutts (Liberal glee for "New America")
New York Times ^ | June 27, 2013 | David Brooks

Over the past few decades, American society has been transformed in a fit of absence of mind. First, we’ve gone from a low immigrant nation to a high immigrant nation. If you grew up between 1950 and 1985, you grew up at a time when only about 5 percent or 6 percent of American residents were foreign born. Today, roughly 13 percent of American residents are foreign born, and we’re possibly heading to 15 percent.

Moreover, up until now, America was primarily an outpost of European civilization. Between 1830 and 1880, 80 percent of the immigrants came from Northern and Western Europe. Over the following decades, the bulk came from Southern and Central Europe. In 1960, 75 percent of the foreign-born population came from Europe, with European ideas and European heritage.

Soon, we will no longer be an outpost of Europe, but a nation of mutts, a nation with hundreds of fluid ethnicities from around the world, intermarrying and intermingling. Americans of European descent are already a minority among 5-year-olds. European-Americans will be a minority over all in 30 years at the latest, and probably sooner.

If enacted, the immigration reform bill would accelerate these trends. It would further increase immigration levels. According to the Census Bureau, roughly 20 million immigrants will come to this country under current law. The Congressional Budget Office expects another 16 million under the new provisions.

It would boost the rise of non-Europeans. Immigration would be more global. Hispanics are now projected to make up 30 percent of the U.S. population by 2050. We would hit that mark sooner with reform.

In other words, immigration reform won’t transform America. It will just speed up the arrival of a New America that is already guaranteed.

What is truly pathetic about all of this, is that this deliberate confusion of heritage helps no one but the demagogues who seek to stir & deliberately exploit ethnic hostility & resentment. Those interests that imagine that the benefit of more potential customers & cheaper labor will offset the effects of this confusion, are short-sighted in the extreme.

For this Ohioan's take on what is driving us to destruction, Compassion Or Compulsion?.

Interesting to note that on this map the Panamanians still get to remain independent of Columbia.

We are being diluted by low wage low education workers who are okay with Socialism, especially when it means benefits they didn’t have to pay for.

Enough people who were not schooled in America and hold no loyalty to this nation or its history.

“what’s in it for me?!!”

Democrats like mass immigration from the Third World because it provides them with reliable voters that likely will secure the Presidency for Democrats. The major financial backers of the GOP like that mass Third World immigration creates a cheap labor pool and drives down working class wages. Neither party asked for nor considers the opinion or interests of the American people.

The business interests, to which you refer, are short-sighted in the extreme. It is not just cheap labor, but new customers for products, that they wish. But the price that they will pay is a population no longer wedded to the values that made Capitalism more successful in America than anywhere else. They simply do not understand that people are not interchangeable. They are so focused on the immediate wish list, that they do not question the silly myths that were promoted in Academia.

I have been fighting this sort of idiocy, much of it promoted by those who want to bring us down, either to the Marxists or some other form of International control, all of my adult life. This assault on our heritage serves the legitimate interests of no group but the demagogues & scoundrels who know how to play those either intimidated or conned into believing notions that simply will not bear analytic scrutiny. (See "Compassion Or Compulsion?")

It has always been tyranny vs. freedom, it doesn’t matter if we were fighting monarchies, socialists (national or otherwise), communists or whatever. These people don’t care about some fictional bottom line, they want tyranny and importing 10-20 million new democrat voters will let them rubber stamp everything they want.

Another gift from congress and senate.
No better reason than to limit them to only two terms.

Whites already make up less than 50% of Texas, and have for years. There are some here who think we should be teaching all of the kids in both English and Spanish. I'm sure their hope is that in 20-40 years, they will then switch it to Spanish-only.

And after the people in the upper green area have made themselves an environment like the lower green area, (think a few years), there will be an illegal immigrant problem in the brown areas bordering them.
