Newly-announced Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Alison Lundergan Grimes told supporters and reporters that her bid to challenge five-term incumbent U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell would be the best move for Kentucky.
Grimes met with supporters which included former Gov. Martha Layne Collins, Rep. Sannie Overly, Rep. Mary Lou Marzian, Rep. Darryl Owens, Sen. Kathy Stein, and Sen. Julian Carroll for 40-minutes in a building which served as her campaign headquarters for her run for secretary of state in 2011.
In a brief statement to dozens of reporters, Grimes said that her deliberate due diligence in the lead-up to her decision to run did not come from a reluctance.
Grimes said she is used to being the underdog in her campaigns, and shell walk into this race behind in fundraising to McConnell who has already raised $12 million through the first quarter of this year. The third quarter for fundraising begins today. McConnells second-quarter report will be available after July 15.
Jonathan Hurst who has been acting as an adviser to Grimes told reporters after the press conference that the next step is to begin the campaign process which will likely include announcements in several parts over the state in the next month.
Hurst said decisions as to who will manage the campaign will also be made in the coming weeks.
McConnell released a statement calling Grimes entrance into the race as courageous.
The next sixteen months will provide a great opportunity for Kentuckians to contrast a liberal agenda that promotes a war on coal families and government rationed health care with someone who works everyday to protect Kentuckians from those bad ideas. Together weve invested a lot to ensure that Kentuckys voice in the U.S. Senate is heard from the front of the line rather than the back-bench and I intend to earn the support to keep it there, McConnell said in a statement.
Who in the GOPe is secretly promoting this woman’s candidacy?
Mighty Mouse might be in trouble here.
Here’s a joke I heard when I lived in KY in the 80’s.
“What’s the difference between Martha Layne Collins and the Panama Canal?
The Panama Canal is a busy ditch!”
That gets a geometric multiplier when the chick in question uses 3 names.
Breitbart has a good article on her announcement. It was a disaster, with an out of date backdrop, a toilet paper roll holding a mic, and about 5 media members watching.
This Chick in question needs to put a lot of emphasis on her new last name Grimes. To hide the fact that she is the daughter of Jerry Lundegran. He is of course a millionaire backer of Bill and Hillary Clinton. The Clintoons have now chosen his daughter as a candidate for Ky to try and oust McConnell. Now we will have to put up with Slick Willie and Hillary Hag coming to Kentucky repeatedly during the campaign. Maybe Hillary will catch Slick with his hand up Allison’s dress. Mrs. Grimes has already lied to the people of Ky by vowing to fill out her full term as Secretary of State during her run for that office. She is only about a year and a half into her first term in office. She won that position running a nasty campaign in which she fought hard against voter identification. She even went so far as to use her 96 year old grandmother as a political prop claiming that Granny should not be forced to go out and get an I.D. just so she could vote. Her grandmother recently passed away. I sure hope that her death was peaceful and of natural causes and not because a hospital refused her treatment under HIPPA rules because she had no I.D.
