JOHN ROBERTS: I assume you heard Senator Schumer talking about immigration. He is fairly positive, he has a bold prediction: the House eventually will pass the Senate bill. What do you say?
REP. TREY GOWDY (R-S.C.): Well, I was moved, almost to the point of tears, by Senator Schumers concern for the future prospects of the Republican Party, but were going to not take his advice. The Senate bill is not going to pass the House. Its not going to pass for myriad reasons. I support immigration reform; I think the current system is broken. But our framers gave us two legislative bodies, and I assume that they did it for a reason. The House runs every two years with the theory that we will be closer to the will of the people.
So, under the assumption that the framers meant to give us two legislative bodies and a House of Representatives with 435 members, we are going to work our will, like we have been doing for the past weeks. We have passed four separate bills out of House Judiciary and an additional bill out of Homeland Security. Were making progress, and we will continue to do so. Im more interested in getting it right than doing it on Senator Schumers schedule.
ROBERTS: Both Senator Schumer and Senator McCain, and Im sure youve heard them both say this. Theres a lot of pressure being brought to bear on the House from a varied coalition of groups, some of whom have not traditionally sided with the democrats on much, let alone immigration. Youre got the U.S. chamber of commerce, youve got the growers, youve got labor unions, law enforcement and you have many churches who are saying to Republicans across the land, it's time to pass immigration reform..

To the headline: yes sure.
The senate Republicans are balless cowards, why would we expect different from the house?
So here we are in the tough talk period.
In a week or two, they’ll be lecturing us on how “something needs to be done.”
You watch - they always do.
Fox News is a liberal, at best occasionally RINO,
network that actually got three to go against Mr. Gowdy
on Sunday morning.
Typical “fairness” for the Romney-Rove-Obama Channel.
The “conservatives” there are not in the least.
If they vote on and pass a House version, then they will just mark it up until it matches the Senate version.
Gowdy, please primary Linda Gayham in 2014.
What he didn’t say was just as important. Like the House passing its own version, then bith bills going to conference where all enforcement language is taken out and we are left with amnesty.
I worry more about what comes out of conference if ANYTHING passes the house
Screw John Roberts. Reminds me f a joke i heard earlier today...How do you know you’re at a gay barbeque? The wienies taste like sh%t...: )
the real problem is if ANYTHING passes the house
it goes to conference and then we are %^&*(*
if pubbies had any brains or balls we would wait until we won the senate then built a fence and put every one to the back of the line for 25 years.
i would just like to know the last time schumer had our best interest at heart??
Just say it dude......we are phuqued.
All 1200 pages of it.
Or you can kiss America good-bye.
I saw first hand what happened in CA....and it will happen all across America if they pass this bill.
As long as the house even entertains the notion of creating their own bill we will end up screwed. They should refuse to play the game. If they want to legislate small items that are helpful such as building the fence they can do it without “comprehensive” reform.
You can count on getting screwed. I got a feeling that they are coming up with something on their own. So you might as well get the vasoline out.
Want on or off this ping list? Just drop me a FReep mail.
The Country could use some more Trey.
GOWDY: Well, you say that is her right. It is her right to remain silent. It is not your right to offer a lot of exculpatory information, to testify and then say Im not going to be subjected to cross-examination. The right to confront witnesses and cross-examine witnesses is also in the constitution. Its just in the sixth amendment and not the fifth. So, what are we going to do? I would hope that Lois Lerner would feel motivated to share the information she has with Congress, whether thats in the form of a proffer or limited immunity agreement.
ROBERTS: Her attorney basically waived off what the committee decided last week, saying it has no legal impact. You said you hope that she would come before the committee. Do you have any legal way to compel her to come back and testify?
GOWDY: Well, unless your name is Jack Bauer you can not make people talk. We can bring her back but you can't make someone talk. What you can do is incent them to talk. We do that all the time in the criminal justice system with proffers and limited immunity agreements.
Lois Lerner will never come back to the House, and it's all because that filthy dirty scumbag Darryl Issa quickly let her walk the first time around. Somebody's got something on Issa, and that is definitely not a good thing for America, given Issa's important chairmanship.
