~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado

Schriever Air Force Base (Schriever AFB) is a base of the United States Air Force located approximately 10 miles east of Peterson AFB near Colorado Springs in El Paso County, Colorado, United States. The base is named in honor of General Bernard Adolph Schriever, who pioneered the development of the nation's ballistic missile programs.

It is home to Air Force Space Command's 50th Space Wing, which provides command and control for more than 170 Department of Defense warning, navigational, and communications satellites. Also housed at Schriever AFB are the Missile Defense Integration and Operations Center and the Space Innovation & Development Center. Schriever AFB is the main control point for the Global Positioning System (GPS).

Schriever AFB is the home of the 50th Space Wing, the Space Innovation and Development Center, the Missile Defense Agency's Joint National Integration Center, 310th Space Group and numerous tenant organizations.

The 50th Space Wing's mission provide combat effects to the warfighter, to include precision navigation and timing and secure satellite communication, through command and control of DOD satellite systems. The other units at Schriever also perform space missions. Schriever Air Force Base is unique in that they have no flightline and no aircraft mission.

Some of the services normally provided at most Air Force bases are not available on Schriever; however, Peterson AFB is a full service base, offering base housing and other support functions.

The 50th SW provides integrated combat effects from space, ensures command and control of satellite weapons systems, and conducts expeditionary operations to enable sovereign options for the defense of the United States of America and its global interests.

The wing operates and supports satellite programs including Global Positioning System, the Defense Satellite Communications System, Wideband Global SATCOM, Milstar, and the worldwide Air Force Satellite Control Network.

The SIDC is composed of the 595th Space Group and these three divisions; the Air Force Tactical Exploitation of National Capabilities, or AF TENCAP; the Integration Division; and the Plans, Programs and Requirements Division.

The organizations work together to conduct wargaming; integrate space into exercises and experiments; rapidly prototype, field and exploit integrated air, space and cyberspace capabilities; provide advanced space testing, training and range Infrastructure; and execute AFSPC Force Development Evaluation and Operational Test programs.

Good evening, Kathy!

*HUGS*

A good day, thanks! I think a lot of people are taking the entire week off - very light traffic in both directions today. Stayed dry, although there were some heavy storms in the area. We were under Tornado Watch until 8:00 this evening.

How is your weather today? Dry I hope.

Hi!Kathy.Had a nice day today,I was actually off so it was good to be away from work.

I wasn’t able to do much though since we have had a series of storms rolling through the area.I hope it clears up for a day or so so I can get my grass cut down to a manageable hight.

I hope everything’s going well in Alaska and your having a great summer.

Howdy, Kathy! (((hugs)))

It’s still pretty sore when I try to raise it. It feels like
a torn rotator cuff. the doc I saw today is going to start me on some therapy to see if that will help. I sure hope so....I already had one rotator cuff surgery and it was NOT fun! Besides, I don’t need any more health problems this year! LOL!

It’s time for the Seattle Chamber Music Festival! We have a concert scheduled for Wednesday, July 3. Thanks to the miracle of the Internet, you can hear the concerts live at the website of KING-FM. I’ll be providing programs and links to the concerts throughout the summer festival. As we approach each concert, I’ll introduce one piece per evening at the Canteen with commentary about the piece. On concert nights, I’ll introduce the musicians.

If you wanted to find Alexander Borodin (1833-1887) during the day, you’d fine him lecturing on chemistry at the Imperial Medical Academy in St. Petersburg. Alex, along with such figures as Ehrlenmeyer and Kekule, was among the greatest organic chemists of his era. If he had never composed a note, his reputation would rest solidly on that.

At night and on weekends, you’d find him sitting in his music room at home composing. His best known piece is the ballet suite from his opera “Prince Igor”

Borodin: “Polovtsian Dances” from “Prince Igor”

His Quintet for Piano and Strings in C minor is rarely performed, but it’s quintessentially Russian. Borodin was one of “The Five”, a group of major Russian composers who moved their music away from its German and Italian roots to something nationalistically Russian.

The first movement, marked andante, starts out a lot like Rachmaninov, who came two generations later, with the sound of church bells on the piano. It has a fine little first subject in C minor which leads into a second subject in E-flat Major. The bell effects return for the development in block chords.

Borodin: Piano Quintet in C minor, first movement

The second movement is a Russian dance movement, a scherzo marked allegro non troppo, set up with a lot of counterpoint. The translation is “quick, but not too much”. It’s a lot of fun.

Borodin: Piano Quintet in C minor, second movement

The finale, marked allegro moderato, is enjoyable. You think it’s going to end heroically, but he fools you at the end.

Borodin: Piano Quintet in C minor, third movement

My sister is right now recovering from rotator cuff surgery. She tripped over her dog. *sigh*

I can imagine it being quite sore.

You have had your share this year. Are you completely recovered from shingles? Had the shot?

I can't get the shot yet, but will just the moment my doctor says it's ok. The shingles are pretty much cleared up, but the neuralgia that is caused by the damaged nerves, and that still causes some intermittent pain, is still there.

Saturday, I had thought that it was the first day that I really felt good and had no real pain, and then flump!e

I am ready for a new year! 2013 has been my nemesis! LOL!

I hope your sister recovers fully from the surgery. I did well
till the last 6 months or so. Now it kind of “locks up” on me
every so often and it owie! I hope she’s doing her therapy...
as much as I hated it, it made all the difference in my recovery.

MAY ALMIGHTY GOD UPHOLD AND DEFEND THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!

THIS NATION IS dearer to me than my own life. I fought for it willingly and proudly, as my ancestors have done since the American Revolution, and as members of my family continue to do to this very day.

Memorial to Battery "C", 5th U.S. Artillery at Gettysburg, PA
MY THREE-GREATS grandfather, Cpl. William Murphy,
a member of this Battery, was wounded by shrapnel
at the Clump of Trees in Pickett’s Charge,
July 3, 1863.

IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR my Father, who enlisted in the Navy before his eighteenth birthday, my Father-in-Law, a combat Marine, my ex-Father-in-Law, Army, along with a veritable platoon of my Uncles and Great Uncles, served in the Army, The Army Air Force, The Navy and the Marine Corps, in the American Theatre, in the Pacific, and in Europe. I would add that my Maternal Grandmother served as a Civilian at the Philadelphia Navy Yard from WWII until the late 60’s. One of my prized possessions is her Certificate of Appreciation for Service During WWII from President Truman.

MY FATHER, then a Reservist, was called up, after his graduation from college, at the onset of the Korean War and served on board the USS Borie, DD-704 as a Radioman Third Class in the waters around the Korean Peninsula. The Borie was part of the armada that participated in the Hungnam Evacuation in December, 1950, following the fabled fighting withdrawal of the 1st Marine Division from the Chosin Reservoir. He earned a commission as a Medical Service Corps Officer by examination in 1951 and served faithfully, zealously and professionally in the Navy until his retirement in 1969.

IN MY YOUTH, I spilled my blood for this Nation on the Field of Battle, in a far-off land, in a war that was abhorred, excoriated and avoided by a great many of my contemporaries; a war in which we were victorious in every major engagement on the field; and a war in which we were betrayed by a coterie of spineless politicians, by The Fifth Column that masquerades as the media, by Academia, and by the Hollywood elite.

I WAS JOINED in that cause by my Father, who had boots on the ground in-country on several occasions in the early 60’s. I was likewise joined by several cousins in the Navy, Army, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.

IN MY OLD AGE, the jackals gather again, seeking once more to steal a victory won by another generation of Americans, seeking to transform our Beloved Nation into a Socialist State in which we are all tools of the collective rather than free men and women, a State in which we will be nothing more than thralls and subjects rather than free and proud citizens. They seek by every artifice, scheme and fraud known to man to undo the American Revolution.

THOUGH I AM OLD and weak, I would willingly fight for our Beloved Nation once again, and, if necessary, give my life for it if doing so would advance the cause of Liberty.

I SAY THIS WITHOUT boast or apology – I am no better or worse than the millions of American men and women who have answered the Nation’s call, and I am no hero. I am simply one of the millions of Americans who did his or her duty when called upon by the Nation to do so. Many of my Comrades-in-Arms join in posting on this Forum, and in this Canteen, and I thank and honor them for their service to our Nation, both on the Field of Battle and now, in the arena where public opinion is molded.

THE CONSEQUENCES OF the 2012 election have unfolded at an alarming pace. Those consequences include an intensified attack on our basic Freedoms, an increasing tax burden on the middle class and small business, and an increasingly aggressive endorsement of the Gay Agenda with its concomitant attack on traditional marriage and our dearly held family values, and our inalienable rights to Life, Liberty, and Happiness. On Mother's Day, the Narcissist-in-Chief kowtowed to the Priestesses of the Abattoir – aka Planned Parenthood.

IN THE PAST SEVERAL WEEKS, we have witnessed the eruption of scandal upon scandal involving this benighted Regime. The cover-up of the Benghazi Massacre continues unabated. The Stalinesque discrimination by the IRS against conservative citizens seeking to obtain tax-exempt status becomes more apparent day-by-day. The unbridled abuse of discretion by Holder's Office in obtaining phone records of the Press and the Congress is just now becoming apparent.

NOW, FRIENDS, IS NOT THE TIME for equivocation, it is not the time for despair; it is not the time for surrender. Now rather is the time to reaffirm with heightened resolve our belief in our core values: individual liberty, self-reliance and personal responsibility, honor of the traditional family, the sanctity of human life, Love of God and Country, and Courage in the face of great Peril. These are the values that made this Nation great, the values that have sustained it through over two centuries of wars, economic upheaval and civil strife. These are the values that are anathema to the left, the values that contemporary society has largely abandoned, the values that we must proclaim with renewed fervor and practice with renewed rigor, the values that we must by word and example inculcate in our children, and the values that we must reestablish as the normative values in our Society if we are to endure as a Free People.

THERE ARE THOSE who say they will discourage their sons and daughters from serving in our Military because of the repeal of “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell”, because of the sponsorship of the Gay Agenda by this Regime, and because of its pernicious suppression of Freedom of Religion in our Military. This course of action will ensure the imminent subversion and effective dismantling of our military.

I WILL NOT COUNTENANCE the relinquishment of our magnificent Military to a gang of perverts, appeasers and traitors. My family has served since the Revolution, we serve now, and we will serve in the future. My youngest son, John-Man, is bent on becoming a Marine, and I will give him every encouragement to stand in the yellow footprints and follow in a long and honorable tradition.

MANY NOW ADVOCATE secession from the Union. Secession is not the answer, even if it could be accomplished. This is the greatest Nation to emerge in the long history of this planet, and it will endure the abuses of the present Regime, it will survive those abuses, and it will flourish in Freedom again!

MORE TO THE POINT, this is MY Country – and it is yours as well! All here love it and would willingly sacrifice to sustain it and the Liberties we enjoy!

HERE I AM AND HERE I STAY!

I AM NOT WILLING to abandon our Beloved Nation to the Leftist traitors now in power or to any other enemies, domestic or foreign. I took a solemn oath when I shipped on over forty-five years ago to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic – that oath bound me while I wore the uniform, it binds me today and it will continue to bind me until the day I die.

"Hige sceal þe heardra, heorte þe cenre,
Mod sceal þe mare, þe ure mægen lytlað. "

"Will shall be the sterner, heart the keener,
Spirit shall be the greater as our might lessens."
(Battle of Maldon – lines 313-314)

KNOW THIS: I will not sit idly by while Marxists, atheists, perverts and traitors work relentlessly to sabotage the heroic efforts and sacrifices of over two centuries of Patriots, to rip away our basic Freedoms, and to bring this great Nation to its knees.

May God continue to Bless and Protect the United States of America – A Beacon of Freedom shining through the darkness of a World beset by Tyranny!

May God Bless and Protect our Valiant Troops of all Services – men and women - combat and non-combat – of whatever MOS. By virtue of their service and sacrifice we continue to enjoy the benefits of Freedom!

With the help of Almighty God, may the Right and our Beloved Nation prevail!
