Republicans in the Texas legislature will try once again to pass sweeping abortion restrictions as they gather Monday for a 30-day special session. And this time, it just might work.
A spokesman for Democratic state Sen. Wendy Davis, who stood and spoke for more than 12 hours to help kill the bill last week, says she won't filibuster the legislation a second time.
"You can't have a 30-day filibuster," says spokesman Rick Svatora. "The point is [Republicans] mismanaged things so badly the first time around it allowed a filibuster to occur. The Lt. Gov. [David Dewhurst] has pledged he won't allow that to happen this time around."
Speaking at the National Right to Life convention this weekend, Dewhurst, R-Texas, said: "I am not discouraged. We will pass this bill out of the legislature." That doesn't mean the bill will pass without a fight.
Republicans were unable to pass the measures last week in large part because of Davis's filibuster, but also because hundreds of protesters crowded the Texas Capitol just before the midnight deadline and cheered to the point where senators on the floor could not hear over the noise.

These women don’t like men legislating over their right to their bodies in late term abortions of murder. Does not fit this situation. Blah blah blah. No battle flag to fight for, I can see. Wendy seems pathetic to carry this crusade of death; she seems to be a mean person to take up a cause in protecting these so called doctors of care to become some lunatic of murder protected by a law that she is hoping for.
Take her to an abortion clinic so she can see this murder firsthand. Maybe, when she sees the baby, she can get this issue. I read some of the comments on another blog about this. The comments of women were the worse. Some of these hateful women should not even be mothers period with this hateful seed that they carry. Death penalty bad. To murder innocent babies, they and Wendy side with. Another reason/and proof, that our nation is in a free fall from God.
This is about Democrat's long-term goal of taking Texas blue. Abortion is the vehicle in this instance.
In the past, Democrats and the corrupt MSM howled in outrage at all the corrupt money in political campaigns and urged cleaning it up with public financing. Republicans had the campaign money advantage so Democrats howled self-righteous indignation. And then Obama raised $1 billion, much from questionable sources. Not a peep from the corrupt MSM or Democrats about this or evil money in politics.
One thing I have learned is that with Liberals whatever they're screaming loudly about is subterfuge, a ruse and simply the horse being ridden to access power, by coup or whatever means necessary.
That's what Wendy Davis is doing here and this is why the corrupt MSM are pimping her.
Yes, I realize the media is building her up for a run maybe governor. Though, if that state is so fragile that the consensus would not support a law against late term abortions, then we are in trouble more than anyone thought. Most importantly between our views, the supporters of this law to block late term killings should carry on.
Abortion should stand as the model for why conservatives oppose progressives. I well remember the original cries to legalize abortion to take it out of the “alley and coat hanger” age and promote health. From there it progressed to a form of birth control, and now they push for infanticide. Make a mistake with birth control? Take a Mulligan, only now it takes a life. An elderly friend and his wife literally adopted the child of a minority, crack addicted whore. They went through a rough withdrawal period, but now have a bright, cute, loving and well adjusted child. I have no doubt the world will be better off with this child than having it sucked out of the womb. Life is precious and deserves to be protected.
Wendy Davis——flash in the pan. Lets hope the Texas Tea Party ushers her out the door at the ballot box. Y’all don’t come back now—hereya?
Wendy Davis is this year’s Cindy Sheehan - only better looking.
Nobody will remember her name in 3 months.
Wish I still lived in Tarrant county so I could vote against her.
Lord, I hope so.
I understand 12 or 14 other states have similar laws?
What would be wrong for a young girl who is pregnant, faced with the usual single parent dilemma and all the stats that point to all the problems vs what happens to the baby if adopted to a loving family, is given the option to have a family pay her for her baby ie to adopt it?
I’m talking about the family enters into a contract with the to be mother to:
1. Pay her medical and dental expenses to have the baby.
2. Provides an education trust fund that will pay for college or technical school for her.
3. An allowance for clothing, dental, etc.
It seems the only options given to these young girls, is abortion or to have the baby in an environment of poverty.
Giving up the baby for adoption should be a noble choice and they should reap some financial reward for that.
Jerry Falwell as I recall provided a home for these girls when they were pregnant. That’s fine, but you carry a baby to term, you should have the opportunity to have the baby adopted, and be financially rewarded for it.
Americans pay thru the nose to various agencies for babies from abroad. Why can’t we do that here? How is this different that entering into contract with a surrogate mother?
How about the cheap wig, with the Micheele bangs?
If one notices the media doesn’t relate this law to the Kermit Gosnell trial and they don’t go detail about the law only using Davis’ description of the law.
It won’t be the same without Witch Windy and the gallery of Harpies for Infantacide.
No but you can leave the State, and hole up in a motel in Oklahoma, to prevent a quorum.
The same tactic was used recently in Ohio I believe, democrats know no shame, but republicans would never stop this low, which is why we are so often losers.
he knows a liberal judge will throw it out at some point
