Egypt army plan to sideline Morsi if no deal reached soon

CAIRO - Egypt's army has plans to push President Mohamed Morsi aside and suspend the constitution if he fails to strike a power-sharing deal with his opponents within 24 hours, military sources told Reuters on Tuesday.

Egypt's first freely elected leader was still clinging to power with tens of thousands of people on the streets from rival factions. There were some clashes between Morsi's Islamist supporters and those who want him forced out after only a year in office.

Military sources told Reuters that once a two-day deadline set by the head of the armed forces expires at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, the military intended to install an interim council, composed mainly of civilians from different political groups and experienced technocrats, to run the country until an amended constitution was drafted within months.

That would be followed by a new presidential election, but parliamentary polls would be delayed until strict conditions for selecting candidates were in force, they said.

They would not say how the military intended to deal with Morsi if he refused to go quietly. He rebuffed the ultimatum on Tuesday and said he would go on working. But he was looking increasingly isolated as ministers and officials who are not members of his Muslim Brotherhood resigned.

Yes it is. And we need to watch developments carefully. Our own military may be put in this same position within a couple of years.

Sham elections + low information voters + liberals unwilling to relinquish power they have seized = a perfect formula for a similar storm in the United States.

To: Egyptian Military.

JUST DO IT!

The Egyptian Military (which was largely trained in the US by US advisors) plan sounds strikingly familiar. Oh! I know, it sounds just like the way Mubarreck used to rule. Ypou know, when he kpet the peace for 20 years, went after fundamental Islamics like the Muslim brotherhood, and protected peaceful Christian worshipers.

Obama changed all of that. Almost exactly the way Carter helped change Iran into the fundamental Islamic state it is today.

Obama is dealing treacheroulsy with the US interests and the US Constitution...and US lives. I wish to God that the American people had the willingness to stand up in the same percentages as the Egyptians did this last weekend and demand Morsi's resignation.

14 million out of 84 million Egyptians marched in the streets last weekend demnanding Morsi resign.

That would mean something more than 50 million Americans marching for Obama's resignation.

OBAMA'S DISASTEROUS 1STs AS U.S. PRESIDENT

As a casual observation, it appears the average Egyptian has a higher appreciation for liberty, freedom and revulsion of terrorists than the average American.

And I give kudos to them. 14 million Egyptians are finally doing what we have been asking of moslem nations for years: “If you really hate the terrorists, publicly reject them.” Looks to me like they are doing that. I hope it is really true, and maybe it’s time for a secular counter-revolution in the middle east.

Hey, I can dream, can’t I?

Pretty sobering statistics for sure. The equivalent would mean one out of every six Americans descending on the Washington Mall.
