PITTSBURGH (KDKA) Obamacare is the law of the land, but it may be the law of unintended consequences.
Some employers say they find the Affordable Care Act unaffordable. Instead of extending coverage to some employees, theyre cutting their hours.
Clint Benjamin cobbles together a living teaching writing at both CCAC and Duquesne University, but this school year CCAC cut his hours.
Ive got a kid to raise, bills to pay, etcetera, etcetera. Everyone has those issues, but it certainly makes the limited dollars leaner and scarcer, Benjamin said.
The reason was not his performance in the classroom, but rather an act of Congress. The Affordable Healthcare Act known as Obamacare.
It requires healthcare coverage for all employees working more than 30 hours a week and CCAC cut back the hours of 200 adjunct professors and 200 other employees so they wouldnt have to foot that bill.
Unfortunately, extending coverage to those employees would be completely unaffordable for CCAC. It would be about $6 million a year, David Hoovler with CCAC said.

I wonder who he voted for. He’s in academia, but I suppose that doesn’t make Obozo a given...
How many friggin’ times does it have to be said... THEY ARE NOT UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES! They are specifically what was intended.
Consequences are thought through by folks with brains. No brains = no thinking ahead. I agree with you 100%.
I’d be willing to wager that most of those “poor” folks being effected at this “education” facility blame the damn republican house for not fixing the bill. I’m sure they are on board with Debbie “finger in a light socket” Wasserman-Shultz.
To bad we have to live with the results of their idiotic policies, however I am happy that they have to live with the same results.
Interesting in that KDKA is a CBS-owned station on the far-left end of Obama propagandists. Even by local standards (where their competition is pretty stiff)
I have no sympathy for this idiot. He and his ilk made this happen.
With all of the damage the democrats have done to this country I hope they suffer the most from this law.
They have truly ushered in the Death of Prosperity.
Remember way back say 2006? What were you or your friends doing for the 4th of July weekend? I remember boating on the river, heading to the beach.... Who has a boat anymore?
It is criminal what has been done to this country. Growing up I always knew I had a shot if I was willing to work hard. Today? It doesn’t matter how hard you work, the majority will have little chance to make it out of poverty.
I pray we can turn this around in 14!
Happy Indepence Day everyone... Sorry to be a downer.
$6M for 200 Employees
this is $30,000 per employee.
One has to ask what, exactly, does the medical industry do with all this money?
It’s an astounding amount of money especially extrapolated to the entire population of the country.
Where does the money go? I’m just wondering.
PS: I know it’a more than financial.
Just looking around at family and friends and feeling bad for them these days.
