EGYPT'S army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has ousted president Mohamed Morsi and declared the head of the Supreme Constitutional Court caretaker leader.
Mr Sisi, the defence minister in Mr Morsi's government, also announced a freezing of the Islamist-drafted constitution and early presidential elections.
He said a "strong and capable" government would be formed and would have "full capacities".
The army chief said a panel would be formed to look into amendments to the constitution and a law would be drafted to regulate parliamentary elections.
After the announcement, delivered by Mr Sisi in a televised address, Mr Morsi denounced the move as an "illegal" and urged Egyptians to "peacefully resist the coup as he himself will do", a senior aide told AFP.
Opposition leader Mohamed ElBaradei said the roadmap announced by Mr Sisi "meets the the people's demands for early presidential elections".
The army's dramatic move comes after millions of Egyptians took to the streets to call for his ouster, accusing him of betraying the 2011 revolution that brought him to power.

Some nations are smart enough to correct a disastrous mistake made by a rigged election after a year of misrule. Other nations in the same situation are stupid and lazy.
Hey Morsi, don’t let the door slam you in the butt on the way out.
Notice that the Brotherhood isn’t busting out and going all head-chopping jihad all over the crowds. They slink into the shadows when the wind isn’t blowing their way.
Good riddance.
Exactly. They and their ilk are mere cowards, beheading when they have the numbers but sulking quietly when they don’t.
The American people have provided a lot of aid to the Egyptian people and the Eguptian military over the last 50 years or more.
It would be nice for them to return the favor.
Maybe the Egyptian military leaders could come to America and help their American counterparts grow a set.
Imagine that second to last photo being in D.C.
Obama needs to do something ..... to get global jihad back on track
Well done, Egypt...
Would that America would see the gross error of its way as well.
I wonder how many refugees Obama is planning on importing under the radar. He wants 10,000 Syrians, so whats another 10,000 from Egypt?
I hear their once robust tourism economy has taken a tremendous hit since electing the muslim satan worshipper! MONEY talks....big time!
So what happened to the 400 US troops that were being sent to protect the muslim brotherhood and help contain the protests?
I would love to see the look on Obamas face when he reads about this in tomorrows papers.
You are right, but I think certain nations sheeple are to comfortable and don't have the stomach for the cost and fear the military will not support them.
Military is a little too powerful when then can willie nillie change leaders. Egypt like the rest of the Muslim world is not in a desirable state. All this tells me is that no matter who is “elected” only the military really has any power
So ElBaradei’s going to be the front man, eh?
We Americans put up with greater tyranny from Obama than the Egyptians . Instead we watch TV, sports and play with smartphones while Obama and his tyrants in DC enslave us. we don't do this but we could

This.
Obama would sh!t his pants if we surrounded the White House like these people do.
It only takes a spark to create a forest fire.
I will not judge the particulars of the Egyptian people rising up.They still may never know or want any form of Jeffersonian democracy.I will say that I am extremely proud of those people to stare the tyrants and thugs in the eye and say stick it,we don’t want you(or Obama)I wish hopelessly that America will show such gumption and patriotic duty; sweeping the tyranny of Obama and his evil and corrupt regime in the dust bin of failure.
“There was a Pro-Morsi rally.... but it was pathetically small: “
and passionless and uninspiring
Morsi ask Obama for asylum yet?
The people of Egypt are showing us how to overthrow a tyrant . will we Americans overthrow our tyrant Obama on our independence day? no we just sit in front of TV. what do you all think?

A little good news...esp. relief for Syria.
The U.S. media are pure evil socialists . the media want us to be slaves

Mohamed, we hardly knew ye...
Noted: to Mohammedans and their dhimmis, a popular revolution that can be manipulated to put Caliphate supporters in power is a popular revolution, but a popular revolution that removes Caliphate supporters is a coup d’etat.
Well, Twitter is full of thugs claiming they are going to riot and loot if Zimmerman is acquitted. Wonder what will happen when they are surprised by shopkeepers who are prepared and have had enough?
Were you there for the taxpayer march on Washington on September 12, 2010? There were plenty of concerned Americans from all over the country there, hundreds of thousands, who all had jobs and spent their own money to get there.
There are plenty of concerned people, we aren't all keyboard warriors playing with our cell phones.
So Obama backs the ouster of the guy who kept Egypt stable for 30 some years in favor of his Muslim brotherhood kin. Gives them money, arms, and support (I mean the US taxpayers did), and now a year later he is gone?
Everything Hussein touches turns to shiite, and years after his treasonous ass is living in his 35 million dollar Hawaii mansion and retired, we will still be dealing with the wreckage of his usurpation.
At least Carter backed a violent, deranged anti-American thug who had some staying power, and we got to fight him and his kind to this day.
Crap, you know you suck when your anti-American terrorist thug you back to try to destroy your country only lasts a year. He’s making Carter look competent, and that ain’t easy to do, even if his compentency is in destroying his own country.
Eh. I meant 9/12/2009...but you get the point.
On call nurses are going to make some BANK!
How did they “oust” him? Did they go in and pick him up and throw him out on the curb?
I wanna learn how to “oust” for later ...here in America.
I guess you can call to congratulate him at any time, Mr. President. I'd recommend getting your embassy staff out of Cairo first before you lose another ambassador through incompetence.

You really are wise. When you have the tanks, jets, semi automatic rifles you are in charge. The military in Egypt is not non profit. They control a big chunk of construction and other industries. With the 1.5 Billion in aid we send them. It’s all about the money and control.
Exactly; it appears the Egyptians have come down with a real bad case of “buyer’s reMorsi”. Too bad we couldn’t have as much sense.
Will Turkey be the next Islamist regime to be deposed by the military to restore the nation to the ideals of Kemal Ataturk?
And nary an explosion to be seen.
That was funny. What a dope Obama is. No one even read newspapers any more.
It is not the military that has the power, it is their guns. So who holds the real power in the US ?
The Arab version of the Tea Party. I like it.
Fox radio news reports 5 dead. Military arresting lots of Muslim Brotherhood members.
It is absolutely amazing the way our Founding Fathers wrote the US Constitution. It was divinely inspired. Normal men (or women/LGBT/handicapped to be PC) couldn’t think of this.
As much as I can disagree with George W. Bush’s policies...see Medicare Part D and amnesty... he was right about one thing.
It’s great to live in a country where power is handed over peacefully. Even Hussein Osama can’t ruin it. Checks and balances.
