Agence France-Presse 30.07.12 MOSCOW – Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed into law a bill punishing people for homosexual "propaganda" in a move critics fear will fuel hate crimes. Rights activists and Western governments have criticised bthe bill as part of an unprecedented crackdown on dissenting voices. The anti-propaganda law introduces fines of up to 5,000 rubles ($156) for citizens who disseminate information aimed at minors "directed at forming nontraditional sexual setup" or which may cause a "distorted understanding" that gay and heterosexual relations are "socially equivalent". Opponents have called the bill homophobic and so vaguely defined that it would inevitably be used arbitrarily and stir anti-gay sentiment in the country. However, it sailed through parliament and Putin had promised in advance that he would sign it. The fines go up to as much as 200,000 rubles ($6,250) for officials if such "propaganda" is disseminated through the media or Internet. Foreigners will not only be fined but face administrative arrest up to 15 days and eventual deportation. Organisations face fines of up to one million rubles and a shutdown of their activity for 90 days.
A poll by independent Levada Centre in April showed that 39 percent of Russians believe that gays and lesbians should have the same rights as heterosexuals, while 47 percent disagreed. This represented a more conservative trend than a poll from 2005 where figures showed 51 percent for and 35 percent against.

As a child of the early 1940s, I never, ever thought I'd live to see the day that a Russian leader gets an attaboy. The world has turned upside down in my lifetime. I've seen a man lighting a woman's cigarette turn from chivalry to an act of terror. And, of course, I've seen disgust with sodomites transform over the years from the normal reaction to what's now a hate crime. All of that's my long-winded way of agreeing 100% and I'll also join in:

They cry out that they are weak, city, metrosexual sorry excuses for manhood. They are not the type of men that built this nation and they do not represent fly over country. One example is Warehouse 13. My hubby likes it and I started watching it with him a few years ago. Last season they introduced a "gay" character but the only time it came up was when the new best friend was starting to have "feelings" for him and he had to set her "straight" (pun intended). There is NO reason at all to have to have a gay character in this series, other than it's the thing to do now and the Hollywood Gay Mafia has grown more demanding.
I was just thinking recently about where we are as a nation concerning sexuality. A mere fifty years ago TV and movie husbands and wives slept in separate beds! Now, in EVERY movie, soap, TV series, casual sex is the norm. Two people who barely know each other seem to have sex first and THEN try to see if a relationship develops. I can't decide if society changed because of "Hollywood" or if the industry was only reflecting society. I think we are moving towards homosexuality the same way - because the Media is in favor of it and they want the world to match their view. Your thoughts?

I think mass media is so much of popular culture (people don't do things anymore that aren't informed or influenced by it) that people think this IS the way culture/society is, and this is the way everyone else thinks and behaves, so they start behaving that way, then the mass media reflects more of the behavior, then people change their behavior to reflect what mass media is telling them, etc. and things ratchet their way over into depravity.
It's not as if they're going to listen to what their peers at church/synagogue or Kiwanis club or bowling club or sewing circle or Toastmasters think.
On another thread, people were discussing why people leave the church. One argument was that the gospel wasn't being presented with conviction and consistency and a lot of church leaders were more concerned with entertaining their congregation and being "hip." I've seen popular culture infiltrate the church to the extent that its ideas are swallowed whole and cloaked in cherry-picked Scripture verses to make them palatable to the congregation. Never mind that it's a worldly rather than a heavenly idea being presented.

I really couldn’t give a rat’s patoot where you place me in your book, I’m an elderly Australian farmer and I’m telling you, as far as I can see, there is no homosexual content in the TV series THE BIG BANG THEORY.
My family wouldn’t be watching it if there was. We are about as much in favour of homosexual behaviour as we are of the PLAGUE.
