Celebrating American Independence While Abetting Tyranny (Rand Paul Article)
washingtontimes.com ^ | July 4, 2013 | By Sen. Rand Paul

One of the acts that would eventually spark the War for American Independence was when the British government authorized Writs of Assistance to British officers in the colonies. This gave government the power to search any residence or business without any warning, supervision or rules. Soldiers were allowed to walk from door-to-door, house-to-house, searching and confiscating property to their hearts’ content.

As is always the case with government power, this policy was widely abused. When the Founding Fathers drafted and ratified the U.S. Constitution, they included the Fourth Amendment — the prohibition of search and seizure — to guarantee that no such affronts to liberty would happen again.

That is, if we follow the Constitution.

Today, we see a government agency that thinks its has the power to search citizens by going from phone-to-phone, gathering any-and-all data to examine to their hearts’ content. The National Security Agency phone scandal is precisely the sort of government action the Founding Fathers fought a revolution to stop and why we celebrate the Fourth of July holiday.

We also have an Internal Revenue Service that targets political dissidents, which is a direct violation of the First Amendment. A Department of Justice that seizes journalists’ phone records without a warrant, which is a violation of both the First and Fourth Amendments.

The signers of the Declaration of Independence would be appalled.

Another reason we fought the revolution was to prevent government oppression of protest, with perhaps the Boston Massacre being the most famous example.

In Egypt, protest is met with tear gas, manufactured in America and paid for with American taxes. When Egyptians protest, they protest against their government and also America for subsidizing that government.

Despite the fact that Mohamed Morsi recently convicted 16 Americans of political crimes in a show trial, the Obama..

I remember seeing a picture of a poster, both in Arabic and in English and towards the end of it, though the Egyptians love the American people, it spoke of anger against the government. It sends a message to the American people that it is time to your country back.

The Egyptian people do love the American people.....they just hate Obama and his entire ilk of America destroyers. Unlike weak Americans.....the Egyptian people have had enough of terrorist thugs and maniacs running their government!!! Let’s face facts....20 million or more Egyptians put everything on the line to rid their country of the “Muslim Brotherhood” leadership of whom our POTUS, Obama adores and worships!!! USA....time to wake up...before Obama acheives his goal....the destruction of the American economy and republic!!!

We may end up seeing down the road massive protests in the USA of Americans taking their country back, starting in D.C.

Egyptians don’t have the creature comforts to keep them fat, ignorant and satisfied like Americans do. Take away Americans’ iPhones, pizza and reality-TV, then you’ll have trouble on your hands.

Even with all the creature conforts, they protested and by seeing the pictures, those crowds were massive!

I don’t believe the Egyptians love America or its people; however, it is clever for the protesters to say so. Just like the Commies in the 60s said they hated American leaders but were for the people. This revolution did not touch sharia law or remove the Muslim Brotherhood which back Morsi.

I can only give you my own experience with Egyptians which involved military cooperation between the USAirforce, the Egyptian Air Force and the Israeli Air Force during the first Gulf war. All three worked togehter in a seamless operation in the movement of allied troops by airlift in & out of Egypt!!! I am sure Israel is resting a bit easier, now that Obama’s love mate Morsi has been thrown out of power!!!

It is up to us as Americans to constantly remind our leaders that without our consent, they have no power.

Uhhh...they have first dibs on any wealth created, transferred, saved, bequeathed or otherwise visible to the IRS and wealth is power.

Sorry, that ship has sailed thanks to the Sixteenth Amendment.

“You cannot give a people liberty. They must fight for it themselves.”

Very true - time for us to let our “rulers” know we don’t want to be ruled. We want our liberty back.

Good article by Rand.

Sometimes the obvious needs to be said...how pages of news print would be filled and hours of images broadcasted of these signs if they said Bush instead of Obama?

If Rand is implying we need to go 1776 on Washington’s ass, I can’t disagree.
