Reversing denial, State says Kerry was briefly on boat

Secretary of State John Kerry was on his boat briefly on Wednesday, contrary to an earlier denial by the State Department, but was there only briefly and did not conduct official business while on board.

“While he was briefly on his boat on Wednesday, Secretary Kerry worked around the clock all day including participating in the president’s meeting with his national security council," spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Friday. Kerry also held calls "with Norwegian Foreign Minister Eade,Qatari Foreign Minister al-Attiyah, Turkish Foreign Minister Davutoglu, Egyptian Constitution Party President ElBaradei and five calls Ambassador Patterson on that day alone and since then he continued to make calls to leaders including Emirati Foreign Minister bin Zayed, Prime Minister Netanyahu and Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr.” None of the calls were made from aboard the boat.

Here is the U.S. Secretary of State (who served in Vietnam) on his boat.

He was on the boat before he was off the boat.

Actually it looks like the dinghy is at the boat. Most have them with their boats and use the dinghy to go back and forth to shore. Have never seen anyone use a kayak to get to the dinghy though. lol

You have a boat?!!!

Where do you live?

I wanna go.

I’ll bring food and drinks....

Jus keedean.... Don’t reveal your location in the open. You’ll get swamped by those of who don’t have a boat for some ride time...

That’s what I was thinking. I can’t recall seeing someone kayak out to a zodiac, which would be used to get to a yacht or even a nice boat.

Seems like more work than it’s worth...

I would think you just hire someone at the marina to ferry you or one of the crew on your yacht uses the zodiac on board.

Wait a minute. Now that I think of it, he could have kayak’d for a while and as a matter of haste, had one of the crew pick him up.

I could see that...

zodiac is tied to the boat, he’s just using it to get onto the boat. pretty good balance for an old guy.

40 Foot!!!????

OMG, that must be wonderful on summer days...

Lucky you.

My Mom’s husband had 36 footer and we’d take it out on the Monterey Bay. Luv’d come over a swell and crash back down.

Then, when I moved to Oklahoma, I had friends who had 30-40ftrs. Not the rush of being out to near ocean but, always an idyllic way to spend the day showing off to girls....

“Wasn't that the one in 1972...the one ordered by Nixon?”

No, that was Christmas 1968 before Nixon was president.
According to Kerry, it was a secret mission, so secret no one knew about it. Kerry said Nixon personally authorized authorized it and Ordered Kerry into Cambodia. This was before Nixon was president. Everyone who was in Viet Nam at the time who has commented on it said it never happened.

Usually the kayak and the dinghy are kept with the boat. You use one or the other but not both. Since he has his bag it doesn’t seem like he was out kayaking but used the kayak to get to the boat. The ladder is to get up to the big boat.
It actually look like the last time he anchored he used the kayak to get to shore so was just using it to get back out.

Sailboats on the open ocean are wonderful, nothing like it. Never been on one on a lake.
One of the main reasons we are still in Cali, besides family obligations. I just cannot fathom not being by the ocean.

I went to this article and it looks like he is the lone person boarding the zodiac, which is just off shore.

So he probably went for a bit kayaking or is just coming from the shore and was going to meet up with the yacht.

You can see the perspective here. Scroll down:
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/john-kerry-chills-exclusive-nantucket-retreat-article-1.1391014

If you scroll further down it appears that boat is too small to carry the zodiac.

The Isable is 75 foot long and I can’t see where the zodiac is hauled up and stored.

State department denied and tried to keep media from reporting this story, until this photo came out.
