viva la pope
I have a medal given to my sister from JP II. It was blessed and touched to his tomb as well.
"Saint Communism Killer the 1st"
But I suppose Saint John Paul will work in a pinch!
He, as well as his predecessors, had the opportunity to please their savior by tossing out the evil fomented by Vatican II.
He, as well as they, didn’t.
John Paul is no saint as he found out when he faced his Maker.
Viva il Papa!
If he wasn’t a saint when he died, he isn’t becoming one now...
Knew this for the last few days. But then again knew this since Pope John Paul II had passed he was a saint.
It’s going to be hard for some people, getting to Heaven and finding the place is full of people they don’t think deserve to be there.
Actually, wouldn’t that make it Purgatory, not Heaven, since Heaven is perfect happiness? Maybe one of the necessary steps for entering Heaven is to understand that, during my life, I was totally dead wrong about a lot of things.
I’m not a Catholic and in any case don’t know the whys and wherefores of sainthood. I DO know a LOT about the Cold War, the conduct of it and the factors that led to the collapse of the Soviets and the Bloc, and in THIS respect I think it’s fair to say that John Paul II was a GIANT of a man. That’s why his photo is on my wall, right next to Reagan’s.
I also believe that JPII knew that the real clergy sex abuse was happening in places like the United States, and he didn't like the United States very much. He distrusted our economic system, he distrusted our freedom, and he didn't like the fact that we were as successful as we were. JPII was infected by the sort of sneering hubris common among European intellectuals.
Was he a saint? I have no idea. He was a great man. I object only to the fact that they "fast tracked" him like this. Time was needed to allow these themes to be developed more fully.
How many kids got buggered while this “saint” was on watch? No way he didn’t know about it.
I’m glad to hear this.
I think December 8 probably get chosen as sainthood swearing in or whatver they call it in Cathoic church
Honest Question for my Catholic friends here...has/does/can the church ever “Saint” anyone who is not Catholic?
Just would love to see St. Ronaldus Magnus or St. Thatcher of Iron go in along with JP2.
Seriously though, in a world where so many “religious leaders” range from charlatans to milquetoast, great to see honor given to JP2, who even I a lowly protestant see as a good man who loved God and used that Love as motivation to do great things on earth....or as we say sometimes, did not have his head in the clouds so much that he was not of any earthly good.
This is no different than “someone else we know”, getting an incredibly undeserved NPP.
