Wisconsin Republican Gov. Scott Walker is refuting a local newspaper’s report that he has endorsed the Senate immigration reform bill. The governor’s office told the Weekly Standard: “Governor Walker has not endorsed any specific policy.”

Walker/Cruz ‘16!

Sounds like Walker changed his mind after seeing the blowback on RINO-Rubio.

Wisconsin Rapids Daily Herald editorial board: “Walker said he is in favor of the Senate immigration bill”

Video at link: Walker says no such thing. Walker talks about reforming the present legal immigration system to accomodate hard workers from other countries THAT ARE NOT YET HERE.

Yet another liberal media outlet tries to divide conservatives with false information. But now we can tell who they don’t want running for POTUS.

No.

A liberal media outlet purposely misrepresented his statements. Go to the link and watch the video.

I knew this was likely the case, yesterday. There were far too many FReepers that were ready to write off Walker over a single source.

Sounds like he’s doing a Sarah Palin on this issue. Essentially, that’s saying that our system is BROKEN, saying that we need a SERIOUS OVERHAUL, and then NOT SAYING specifically what that would be.

The problem with that: There is ONLY ONE GAME in town right now regarding overhauling immigration, and that is AMNESTY. So I don’t blame the newspaper for connecting the dots.

So, here’s what a REAL OVERHAUL of immigration might include:

1) Verifying that EVERYONE employed is legal. All businesses would have to certify such (i.e., E-Verify), or owners face jail. This would be a notarized form they sign.

2) Likewise business owners would promise (under threat of jail) to run background checks on all new employees (again, E-Verify).

3) Any conviction of anything beyond a speeding ticket results in immediate deportation. This does include driving without a license. It also includes presenting false papers for employment or anything. Also, no chance ever to immigrate here legally if caught after implementation of the law (an no chance ever, if convicted of a serious crime in the past).

4) Build a complete wall/fence along the Mexican border.

5) Not speaking English reasonably well is probable cause for any cop to ask for proof of citizenship. Once stopped for any probable cause (i.e., other crimes), anyone can be asked to prove they are legal.

6) Proof of citizenship required for anyone accessing federal/state benefits.

7) Proof of citizenship for EVERYONE attending a college that receives federal money in any way (i.e., nearly all of them). I’d say the same for K-12, but given our schools, I think most of the parents already understand they’d be better off in Mexico.

8) Enforcement of student visas. If a visa expires, law enforcement and colleges, etc. are notified immediately and the college administrators face jail time if they harbor the illegal in any way (because they will otherwise).

9) Enforcement of all other visas, same way.

10) Zero tolerance for visa overstays. Overstay without a good cause (like being stuck an extra week because your passport was just stolen), then you are NEVER permitted to step foot in this country and will hit with a felony if you sneak in.

11) Photo ID at Mexican standards for voting (look it up, it’s really, really, good there).

12) Occasional raids on business, to the extent necessary to convince employers that the government is serious.

Note what is not there:
1) NO AMNESTY
2) No huge hunting down of illegals already here, for deportation (beyond the occasional raids mentioned above). Overall, once you cutoff welfare, employment, and access to college - they’ll go home themselves.

The wall/fence might not even be needed, if the other items were done. This would be a VERY BORING country to people thinking of coming here.

Now has ANY REPUBLICAN proposed anything close to this? If so, I haven’t seen it. So, if they’re not up to proposing something like this, they need to either SHUT UP, or simply state that they oppose the Senate bill. Saying that the system is broken, and then not giving any ways to fix it does make that person sound like a fan of amnesty, as governor Walker just learned.

Okay, but let’s make sure everyone is treated the same and held to the same standard whether they are Sarah Palin, Marco Rubio, or...Michelle Bachmann.

You've obviously forgotten the presses behavior during the big showdown in WI a couple of years ago. Partial quotes which were misleading, deliberate misquotes, and outright lies. This is simply more of the same.

All designed to depress supporters.

A liberal media outlet purposely misrepresented his statements.

You're not saying a Democrat "mainstream" newsroom is lying in order to smear a strong conservative?
No. They would never do that.

Maybe this sounds worse than it really is. I would like to believe that Walker is on the right side on this issue. It doesn't make sense that the man who beat the Dems in Wisconsin would want to import enough leftists to make sure the GOP never wins another election.

But according to this article, which corrects the false report that Walker publicly endorsed the senate bill, Walker added that there needed to be “a larger way” to reform the system to make immigrating easier. “Because if it wasn’t so cumbersome, if there wasn’t such a long wait, if it wasn’t so difficult to get in, we wouldn’t have the other problems that we have.”

That sounds like an UH-OH to me Obama claims he doesn't have time to do background checks, and Walker wants to make the process easier?

I will meticulously examine any future Walker statements on immigration.

The current system takes relatives of immigrants here and jumps them ahead of everyone else in line, much like amnesty would do. Here you see Koreans with lots of $$$ bringing in parents and then signing them up for food stamps.

This type of talk is about prioritizing legal immigration based on job skills not family ties.
That is usually what they mean when those in GOP say the system is broken,

My uncle told me that he and his wife (a US citizen) had to wait 10 years to get her daughter a green card because of a lack of written birth records in her country, finally a blood test did it. Now she is a US citizen too.
He is livid over illegals getting amnesty.

When I hear Glenn Beck or Sarah Palin on this I get a clear answer.

Ted Cruz is clear in his position.

Its very telling that Governor Walker’s message is not clear and appears to mirror the phony conservative ads that speak of a “broken system” of immigration.

Publicly, he doesn’t endorse the Senate bill but privately he must be fine with it since it has “security” in it with the Corker-Hoeven amendment and fixes the system.

Reading his answer all I saw was doubletalk and political speak.

I hope you are right about that, but if so Walker's statements are likely to be misunderstood. It sounded to me like those poor illegal aliens had to wait too long. And although I agree with you that family-based immigration is harmful, I am not convinced congress tinkering further with job skill quotas would be fair to US workers.

That is usually what they mean when those in GOP say the system is broken,

Not when the Gang of 8 says it.

The conservative position right now is NO BILL COMES OUT OF THE HOUSE.

If one does the legislative process will lead to an Obama signature on amnesty.

Why isn’t Walker saying what conservatives are saying about the immigration issue right now and calling it by its proper name....amnesty?

“A liberal newspaper smeared Walker” is a nice try for cover and the usual attempt by political operatives to spin to conservative resentment of the biased media.

But until Scott Walker says “NO AMNESTY” and ‘NO IMMIGRATION BILL SHOULD BE PASSED BY THE HOUSE’ I have him down as a business as usual RINO politician on this issue.
