Boston cops crack down on after-hours parties

Boston police are using social media, as well as old-fashioned walking beats, to find huge after-hours parties before they happen in an effort to tamp down summer violence.

“It’s about trying to be proactive,” said Bureau of Field Services Superintendent William Evans. “If we find out about a party, we’re going to visit that house ahead of time.

If they have a DJ, they need an entertainment license. If they’re going to serve alcohol, they need a liquor license.”Evans said police are spotting upcoming parties online, as well as on fliers posted

Ok Nanny. Understandable about the parking but it doesn't exist in NYC anyway.

No, not a nanny; I wouldn't call the po-po. Like I said, I'd come over and talk face to face. I'd be polite and friendly, but I would let you know how I feel.

If your events do not inconvenience your neighbors, by all means, carry on. I wanted a quiet, peaceful setting, so I bought a house in one. Fortunately, my neighbors seem to feel the same way.

There's a difference between police ticketing/dispersing parties that get out of hand based on neighbor complaints and going on a fishing expedition on social media for permits.

I have a feeling the police, in this case, have a pretty good idea where the trouble spots are.

Can the people riot, or is that right only reserved for faggots in NYC going to a mob run speakeasy called Stonewall?

You got that right! It has nothing to do with business licenses and permits. It has to do with scofflaws, who operate for-profit, unlawful enterprises with the resultant, bad outcomes for the rest of the community. If the people of Massachusetts wanted extended bar-hours, they’d have been codified already! Policing this crap costs money, which the taxpayers didn’t vote on!

Bet none of the Kennedys ever get a party permit to whore it up and booze it down.

Sounds to me like these are the newest revenue tickets. In Houston the fine for noise violations (at bars as well as private parties) has been doubled and there is no longer any decibel measurement. The police don’t even need to receive a complaint or enter the establishment to write a citation.

The Boston cops must all be direct descendants of the British troops that tried to stifle freedom. They are a disgrace to the memory of all who fought for our freedom.

And for all the NSA trolls, FU.

Is that car equipped with a flux capacitor? The legend dates from the 1960s :)

(15-25 years before I got there)

Sigma Rho Epsilon (or Epsilon Rho Sigma?), which later affiliated with Phi Kappa Tau, Northern Michigan University.

The legend dates from the 1960s. My own experience with the street— a long, long slope— was coasting down it on a ten-speed in the 1980’s. I was not BUI at the time.

Coming back up the hill was a grade-A Ditch with a Capital B.

It’s clear to me, that a lot of people here are theorizing about imagined rights violations and have never been victimized by one of these exercises in freedom, on their block! The lack of civility is remarkable!

This militarization of police needs to be nipped in the bud.

The bud has bloomed and the plant has become a large, multi-branched tree.

Of course, we can go get a chainsaw...

When the police are scanning social media for parties, they are seeking out possible actionable activity.

Additionally, I’ve seen the new “noise ordinance” enforced against 80 year old bars.

People who move across the street from a tavern should know better than to complain about the noise.

Try calling the cops when a plane flies over your house if you live by the airport...

Like I said, some people here haven’t had one of these wonderful events take place in their neighborhood, yet.

It's all about the MONEY. I've never heard of a free permit. And the DJs who work for cash off the books can now be targeted for taxation by requiring them to be identified on the permit.

What is wrong with the police?

The function of government is to govern. "They" will take what "we" will relinquish.

Good point! I sincerely hope it won’t take the second amendment chainsaw to fix things.
