Currently just Tweets and locals talking about this, nothing on news sites yet. Lots of stuff in the Twitter feed, including links to uploaded videos of the smoking mess.

I think the gear collapsed causing much of the debris...

They got 10 guys doing a slow walk up the runway. Looking for something.

Looks like the plane struck the very end of the runway, right where the pilings are. Horizontal stabilizer lying near the end of the run way. Looks like it hit the runway so hard it disintegrated the tail section.

There could be someone(s) missing. Cabin crew could have been back there.

The plane never flipped over, wings intact.........could never flip with wings attached. Looks like possible explosion in the cabin as the airplane landed. The rear fuselage bulkhead was blown out rearward by whatever occurred in the cabin. The top pf the fuselage is also blown out. Those of us who spent lives in our aviation industry are leery of the cause. An explosion in the cabin that blows out the rear pressure bulkhead would be cause for the tail to fall of the aircraft fuselage. Bears looking into!!! Could still be an accident, but...in these days....one never knows. I am certain that Boeing, Asiana Air, the FAA, industry experts and the DOT will figure this out!!!

Yeah they’re now performing a water search with a boat and helicopter, but at least they said search and rescue.

Yeah I saw that, but right wing tip has substantial damage from about 7 feet to tip.

I’m hoping a bird strike and not Islamic terrorists.. Are there restrooms in the very back of the plane? Remember there was a note found in restroom on a recent flight?

“they are foaming the “carp” out of the fuselage now”

Hey now, just because they’re Asian. Be nice.

lol, I’d need a pill. I don’t drink so a stiff drink wouldn’t help. The TSA is going to be using machines that measure someone’s Cortisol level as another “tool” to use to detect terrorists. Heck, my cortisol level would be high just on the freeway to get to the airport.

Big hole in fuselage just above port wing leading edge join point. No fire burn damage around its edges, as there is on the rest of the burned roof.

This hole is just aft and above the second hatch back from the cockpit.

Mr GG2 a pilot and former Boeing line chief says the pilot made hard landing too soon. He hit the embankment and took the landing gear off then the tail. It didn’t go very far after it hit so he says the guy probably didn’t dial in his barometric pressure right so he landed way too soon. He was probably looking at the dials and not the ground. The radar should have been overiding it but who knows.

“Heavy jets don’t have skid capable tail sections”

Not exactly.

During flight test the tail is purposely “scraped” on take off and landing, multiple times.

Part of its certification process.

I’m sure that when witnesses talk about “wings” coming off they are actually referring to the right and left horizontal stabs and maybe the rudder. Only the right wingtip seems to have been severely damaged on the main wing.

If there was a mid-air explosion in the tail area — even one second before touch down — this is a really big deal.

It is unlikely the baggage compartment extends that far back. The 777 has no tail engine with associated fuel lines or even an APU in that location (I don’t think).

So what caused the explosion? I hope it wasn’t a SAM!

Maybe a lot of that debris trail is what is left of the tail....Either that or from bottom of fuselage when the gear collapsed..
