Bush to GOP: Give Immigration a Chance
Yahoo News ^ | 7/7/2013 | Connor Simpson

Posted on 07/07/2013 1:42:33 PM PDT by South40

Former President George W. Bush wants Republicans to consider immigration on its own merits, not just as a party saving piece of legislation, he said during an interview on ABC's This Week. "Sometimes, it takes time for some of these complex issues to evolve. And it looks like immigration, you know, has a chance to pass," Bush said.

Ask a thousand American citizens what are the most important issues facing this country. I guarantee immigration reform does not make the top 10.

“Immigration reform” is not “Immigration reform”...it is amnesty. But Bush, like so many liberal proponents of it, refuse to call it what it is.

Yeah. Give LEGAL immigration a chance. If that statute cannot serve the current purposes of the United States, then re-write the provisions, or set up criteria based on the current realities of the world, and pass that into law, then, for the sake of the future of America, ENFORCE the law, giving no loopholes for “exceptions” like the atrocity commonly called “amnesty”, and especially nothing like a “chain migration”. Every entrant into the United States is not expected to become a citizen, nor should this be a stated goal. Except for serious breaches of the law and a resultant record of misbehavior, visitors are welcome AS VISITORS. If the purpose is to come to the United States to pursue studies or a career, then a suitable category as a resident foreign citizen may be reserved for this arrangement, but again, these people are not and do not choose to eventually become naturalized citizens. Then there is the highest category, those who, being of good character and genuinely interested in becoming a US citizen, willing to swear full allegiance and forsaking their land of nativity, are admitted for that purpose, on a conditional basis.

Only after fulfilling all the other requirements for citizenship (time of residence, familiarity with US law and customs including language, and swearing an oath of allegiance), would that coveted title be conferred upon the willing and dedicated applicant.

The Democrats are dumb but the Republicans are dumber. The Dems will have total control of national politics for a generation or more if this amnesty bill passes. If Jeb Bush, Paul Ryan, Marco Rubio, and the rest of the pro-amnesty people think this will benefit the GOP then they are truly stupid. GOP to the Democrats means Grand Old Patsies.

We did and lost California.

I say give them California instead, but they HAVE to keep Hollywood and San Francisco, and leave the rest of the country alone.

Hey El Bushie, Reagan gave it a chance. That did not work out very well.
We never hear you talk about ANY of Obama’s policies, but you are always
willing to attack conservatives who don’t agree with you.

Dear George, you had your 8 years as POTUS, please keep your opinions to yourself. You will not criticize Obama, but you will criticize the conservatives in your party? Just, please, shut up.

Hey, W, tell Laura to pick up a mop and learn how to use it.

At the very least, she could talk a little sense into him, but he is a Bush, therefore, he is terminally stupid.

Sounds like a headline writer getting ahead of themselves.

NO ONE in the GOP is against immigration.

NO ONE.

And just like the MEDIA AND THE DEMOCRATS (but I repeat myself) try to define marriage as sodomites engaging in a relationship and try to define anyone opposing sodomy as a hatemonger, so too we MUST not allow these assclowns to tell us that we oppose immigration.

We oppose ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION. PERIOD.
