Field-grown marijuana allowed in state's proposed regulations (Washington)

OLYMPIA — Marijuana could be grown outdoors in the sunshine — no grow lights or greenhouses required — under draft rules for the state’s new marijuana industry.

The rules, approved by the state Liquor Control Board during a meeting last week, establish regulations for pot producers, processers and retailers and set the stage for legal recreational marijuana use to begin early next year.

The decision to allow outdoor grows also increases the potential for pot as a crop in Washington’s sunny side east of the Cascade Range, where irrigated fields of apples, hops and wine grapes dot the landscape, though most agriculture groups are discouraging longtime farmers from growing it.

They also strengthen requirements for child-proof packaging and restrict advertisements that may appeal to youths, among other things.

Youts can't open the package? They don't know youts.

Hell yeah. Bring it on and tax the crap out of it !

I haven't smoked ANYTHING in 33 years but hey, the maker of cigarettes makes less of the product than the federal and state government so why not.

I tried to convince my dope smoking relatives we should tax carrots at the same amount !

I see a new Dire Straits song coming out.

If it turns out to be GMO, this just might be bad for your health.

Isn’t there a cross-pollination problem between the two?

"Marijuana could be grown outdoors in the sunshine.."

What could possibly go wrong here? Surveillance and fences won't keep the human critters out. Perhaps it will reduce the amount of convenience store robberies as there will be real money to be gained elsewhere. The State of Washington is a glaring example of a Democrat controlled state where only three counties dominate politics.

There was an article in my local paper today about a company trying to open a pot farm about a mile from my house. I really hope my town doesn't open up to pot farmers. It's long past time to leave the state of CT.

I personally think it’s a great idea. What are all these welfare-leech bastards sitting around doing all day instead of working? They’re smoking pot! If we take away the demand for a black market and tax the bejesus out of it, they’ll either be forced to pay their part that way or quit smoking it! Plus it takes a huge load off the court & prison system and allows responsible working adult cannabis users to continue living as they do without the constant threat of incarceration. The people are happy, the government pulls in very much needed revenue, and we can end the ludacris expenditure that is the war on drugs. Sounds fantastic to me. And who cares if the kids can open the package? Nothing will stop kids from smoking pot, it’s what they do.
