The geese were geessed. It was either the geese funeral or the road kill wake.(Some people have way too much time on their hands.)

Can’t have wild geese running around wild.

It’s bad for the man-created ecology.

They were NOT "euthanized" -- they were killed. Geese droppings are "health hazard", but homeless people and "Occupy" movement's participants defecating in parks is OK.

"The geese lived in Gaston County Park in Dallas for a decade, but county officials said the flock had grown so large that their droppings were a health hazard. So workers gathered up the birds last month and were killed with poison gas.

It wasn't unusual. In 2012, federal officials issued euthanasia permits for nearly 25,000 Canada geese in 46 states."

You have to see the amount of damage even a small flock of Canadian Geese can do to understand why this was done.

Why not pluck them, season them and cook them. Have a bar-b-Que.

I was thinking the same thing. Hang the bird for a couple of days before plucking and then roast that bad boy up!

I’ll grant that, but once they settle on an area, they will produce so many droppings that it becomes a health issue. Pretty pictures of flying geese don’t usually include the crap filled ground beneath them. And they tend to take over places within cities that people use, like golf courses and parks.

What are you talking about — they are beautiful birds:

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

True, but while they are beautiful to look at, they are a huge annoyance, even scary, and downright dangerous at times (ask any pilot).

They are indeed rats with wings,

as deer are rats with antlers,

as squirrels are rats with beautiful tails.

No, I understand the gassing of the geese...my point in posting this article was the loons that showed up for a memorial.

Ever try having a nice day in the park with a flock of those around? Or try going for a walk near a source of water without looking down.

Canadian Geese?
Heavens to Mergetroid!

Good thing they weren’t Hispanic or African or African-American Geese.

There would have been riots in the street.

Unfortunately, this is only temporary.

The flock will be back as others in the area come from in after there is a vacuum of geese.

144 geese are a very small number compared to what is all around.

My subdivision went through the same thing a few years ago. They decided on hiring a geese deterrent specialist who had border collies chase them.

Apparently, border collies freak out the birds with the way they look at them and they love the water and will follow the birds into the lake.

It was very cool to watch and entertaining as well.

It chases them out for a while but after the dogs stop haunting the lake, dog cutouts keep them away longer.

‘__________crap filled ground beneath them.’

Absolutely correct.
I’m a 44 year CA resident, and when I would go ‘home’ to Long Island to visit relatives, this scene was disgusting.
And that was years ago.
The geese apcray was ruining parts of the mighty Jones Beach area, on the Atlantic Ocean.
And ruining the pristine Northport Harbor on the Long Island Sound.
And places all over Long Island I never saw.

Super disgusting, pitifull, stupid, and senseless.

Imagine the residents having to put up with this nonsense???
I couldn’t get out of there fast enough.
Have no idea what’s going on there now.

I pray to G_d they don’t EVer relocate
to Ventura County, CA. . .

Beautiful - until they crap all over your lawn, your sidewalk, the park, the parking lot, your deck..... Having found the perfect socialist paradise (lots of food, no need to “work” by migrating, and no threats), they simply multiply until they reach the point at which they become a health hazard.

The sky rats are a big problem...apparently many do not migrate any longer, they just hang out living the good life.

I used to officiate football in Reno, Nv and the damn goose crap on the fields was miserable. The town actually paid folks with border collies and aussie shepherds to harass the geese to try to get them to relocate.

Cape Cod remedy for Canada Geese problem involves purchasing FAKE alligator heads ,placing them in a pond that the geese are using as a feeding ground and gobbling up an 'endangered' water plant.

The Gators will need to be moved frequently to continue to fool the geese....I have been told that ,at least for now, shot gun shells are cheaper and more effective.

Nice reporter derp.

Canada geese, not Canadian geese. Although it would be possible for the geese to be from Canada and therefore be "Canadian," the article implies that is not the case:

"The geese lived in Gaston County Park in Dallas for a decade..."

Leave it to the government to gas the geese and bury them. What a waste of edible meat.
