Syria's Islamist rebels say the downfall of Egypt's popularly elected Muslim Brotherhood president has proven that Western nations pushing for democracy will never accept them, and reinforced the view of radicals that a violent power grab is their only resort. Radical Islamist groups, some of them linked to al Qaeda, have lately been in the ascendancy in Syria's two-year conflict as the death toll rises above 100,000.
Assad has celebrated President Mohamed Mursi's fall as a symbolic blow to the Islamist-dominated opposition, though on the battlefield, where his troops are already making gains, it is likely to have little impact given the Brotherhood's limited role in the fighting.
Hardliners in the rebel ranks have long overshadowed the Muslim Brotherhood, a regional movement with a more moderate Islamist brand, and often criticized it for working within the framework of democracy instead of demanding an Islamic state.
"(We) always knew that our rights can only be regained by force and that is why we have chosen the ammunition box instead of the ballot box," said a statement by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, the local franchise of al Qaeda's international network, published on the day Mursi fell.
"If you want to shake off injustice and create change it can only be done by the sword. We choose to negotiate in the trenches, not in hotels. The conference lights should be turned off," it said, in an apparent reference to the Western and Gulf Arab-backed meetings for the Syrian opposition's National Coalition meetings in Istanbul this week.

Natan Sharansky pointed out perfectly that it’s evil to use voting as the measure of a society’s legitimacy. The USSR, Saddams Baath regime, etc all held elections.
He held that the true test was the soapbox test. Is it possible in a society to stand in public and say something unpopular without a realistic fear of arrest or lawless violence. No moslem society passes this test.
Until they do, their elections and “democracy” is nothing but a cynical farce.

Its truly pathetic how much Obama and Clinton invested in the Muslim Brotherhood and their ilk throughout North Afria, and how quickly their foreign policy in the Mid-East has collapsed and proven to be a joke. The only person who approximates them in stupidity is John McCain, with his rush to befriend and arm these so-called “rebels” in Syria.
One would think that McCain and others would be seeking out Rand Paul’s advice on hasty commitments of America’s power and credibility right about now.

Does he not realize that it was the Egyptian people not Western Governments that caused the downfall of the muslim brotherhood? Once the people saw the truth of the muslim brotherhood THEY demanded the removal of that government.

"The Islamic State phoned me saying that they killed Abu Bassel and that they will kill all of the Supreme Military Council," Saadeddine said. "He met them to discuss battle plans." ...The Islamic State of Iraq is considered an umbrella organization for a long list of insurgency groups, including members linked to Al-Qaeda, the former Mujahideen Shura Council, and various other groups that wish to establish a caliphate... within the majority Sunni regions of Iraq. The leader... Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi... is seen by the Syrian opposition front as hijacking the opposition’s cause and being more interested in imposing radical Islam than overthrowing the current government, Reuters reported.
