TORONTO - Flooding and power outages have been reported after a storm rolled into Toronto late Monday afternoon.
Canada Ping!
Well there’s been a whole lot of rain in the entire Northeast these past few weeks. A lot of rain. On the bright side, all those reservoirs are filling up. All those people baking in the scorching deserts of the Southwest, come on up here for a vacation and all the empty jugs you can carry.
HOLY CRAP!
And the rest of Canada says, “Oh well”.
Global oompa loompa
Wow - I’m just 40 miles south of Toronto. Never had a drop! Hope they get things under control.
Under Toronto’s former mayor, who pleaded for the Army to rescue Toronto from a snowfall, they’d be calling in the Navy by now!
They did call out the police Marine Unit- they’re evacuating 1500 passengers from a train.
Born and raised in Hamilton, now live in Iowa. We’ve had more than our share of rain here over the last decade. A handful of years back, nature tried to wash the entire University of Iowa down the Mississippi. We used to call it the Don Valley Parking Lot. Now it is...
Also born and raised in Hamilton! Still here (Mount Hope).
Still love that airport. Did many many flights in and out of there. We could see Lake Ontario from our house. Our mom made us do daily Mass for years at the cloistered nunnery where Upper James Street rolls on down the Mountain. I lost a number of baseballs (playing at Southam Park) because I could make the ball travel the length of the field...
I recently posted a picture of the steel stairs at the end of Upper James leading down to the city. When I was young, of course they were wood, and we used to surf down them in the winter. And spend the next week picking splinters out of our hands...
That’s neat - I know every location. We used to fly as kids out of the little Mount Hope airport. That was some time ago - my dad had a small airplane there. We used to run around the hangers and nobody paid any attention. We’d go flying a few times every summer. I wouldn’t board a plane now! Those were the days! It’s a much busier place nowadays!
Are the stairs the ones that empty out at Wentworth Street? I didn’t know there were any at Upper James, but could be wrong. I know the nunnery of which you speak - nice serene property. I think it’s still there, but haven’t driven that way for a bit.
Where were you raised? Mountain, I presume?
Try living in the States, where you can get an anal probe every time you pass through TSA security at the airport.
Nope. Wentworth is a mile or so to the east. The stairs we used were at the top of Claremont Access. I think the last time we were by, the nunnery was sold off.
We lived across Tanner Street from Southam Park. Lots of street hockey there. Lots of tennis balls down the sewers, too.
