The IRS Mistakenly Exposed Thousands of Social Security Numbers
National Journal ^ | July 8, 2013 | Brian Fung

Posted on 07/08/2013 9:27:27 PM PDT by INVAR

The incident involves the unwitting exposure of "tens of thousands" of Social Security numbers, according to a recent audit by the independent transparency and public-domain group Public.Resource.org. The identifying numbers were on the Internet for less than 24 hours after being discovered, but the damage was done. And unfortunately, the data-breach concerns some of the most sensitive types of transactions: Those made by nonprofit political groups known as 527s.

AGAIN - the most disturbing aspect:

unfortunately, the data-breach concerns some of the most sensitive types of transactions: Those made by nonprofit political groups known as 527s.

Here's an update from this morning from the Source:

"The IRS has responded with a statement, saying the agency is "assessing the situation and exploring available options."

"When we were alerted last week that a substantial number of Social Security numbers were posted on IRS.gov in forms filed by section 527 political organizations, the IRS decided out of an abundance of caution to temporarily remove public web access to the records," an official wrote. "The law requires the IRS to publicly post forms, such as Forms 8871, 8872 and 990, that are submitted by section 527 organizations.

Public.Resource.org took down its copy of the compromised 990-Ts and replaced them with a clean version that the IRS had sent. But it was another day before "senior White House officials" the IRS removed the files from public view on their end, on July 3.

Just great. And these boneheads now are enforcing ObamaCare with access to our personal health records. Just great.

What did we think was as going to happen?

The IRS is the enforcement weapon, and we learned that Obama has turned the IRS into a political weapon against his enemies.

So, what did we think would happen?

Welcome to tyranny.

Fox has picked it up now and is reporting on it:

Group: IRS mistakenly posted thousands of Social Security numbers on website

*snip*

One estimate put the figure as high as 100,000 names. The numbers were posted to an IRS database for tax-exempt political groups known as 527s and first discovered by the group Public.Resource.org.

*snip*

it hopes the Obama administration will act to restore access to the agency's nonprofit database and resolve its concerns over what it described as a "serious violation of federal law."

The big question is whether these constitute a release of those organizations’ donors’ SSNs. That would be worse by an order of magnitude than the release of their names, which was already used by liberal political proponents of gay marriage to harass the donors. This would be enough for identity theft. This is a very, very serious matter.

Any way that it can be determined if the numbers revealed were conservative?

The information obtained by Brian Fung at the National Journal is that what was released by the IRS WAS Social Security Numbers - SSNs of 527s - which I assume were individual donors in the 527.

How much do we want to assume that the intent of this ‘mistake’ is ‘chill or punish donations to Conservative 527s same as was being done by the harassment of Conservative 501C3s?

Look the original IRS scandal of harassing TEA Party non-profits was a very, very, serious matter.

Nothing is going to be done about it. The Dictatorial Tyrannical regime is now self-aware that they are invincible and hold total power without any risk of charge or action to check their power.

By us, no. By the IRS, probably by name. By the organizations themselves, when their donors start to complain about their bank accounts being drained by hackers.

It’s all part of the Obama template: intimidate, harass, threaten, criminalize, impoverish, enslave and destroy.

Destroy.

Destroy.

Destroy.

Destroy.

It’s not about power for power’s sake - it’s about our destruction - so their utopia can be hoisted upon our ashes.

That is what ‘fundamentally transform” meant.

This is just another one of MANY tools this cabal is using to kill their enemies, using the IRS to punish and intimidate the enemies of Obama’s state.

And ObamaCare is not even implemented in full yet.

Just wait until everyone realizes Obama and his IRS has the power of life and death over you.

If you’re lucky - you’ll get the pain pill - but probably not if you didn’t vote correctly.

I was and executive for 2 "Big Data" companies. When I hired on to the 1st company, there ware sooooo many vulnerabilities that it was a miracle it wasn't profoundly compromised. Most issues got fixed, much to the chagrin of the "cowboys" who wanted to carry around private customer data on their laptops traversing the globe (not Texas cowboys - used as a slur for undisciplined hackers).

My 2nd Big-Data company, they had their partner/public API wide open to downloading ALL proprietary information. For some reason, I was the only person who realized this was a MAJOR security hole.

Based on about 30 years of deep and wide IT innovation and management - the quality of the government/public talent in IT administration is substantially lower than the private talent, which isn't saying much.

There are ever diminishing American resources who don't want to compete with foreign nationals for IT jobs (mostly Indian, then Chinese and lastly eastern block nationals - with growing Mexican and South American resources).

We're toast now - with intellectual property fleeing the country faster than the latest Hollywood movie hosted on a bitstream/torrent download site.

I am sure FedGov will tell which taxpayers are now exposed to identity thieves.

NOT.

Sue them into oblivion. It is their fault and they should be held liable.

Sue them???? You kidding me? Sue the IRS and the Fedgov???? In COURT?

In HOLDER’S InJustice Department???

You watching the Zimmerman farce?

We have as much recourse in the courts to redress our grievances as a snowflake in a blast furnace.

It is all corrupted and poisoned.

We have no recourse left but one - well... actually we have two - but since the churches themselves refuse to preach the need for national and individual repentance, the last option is not really going to be a viable one - except when deciding how you want to go out in the face of tyranny.
