Can immigration reform pass the House? Maybe. [Demon Rat Memo Names RINO supporters!]

Is immigration reform doomed in the House?

Reform advocates and Democrats on the Hill are not ready to give up just yet, and they are quietly circulating a new memo that details a list of House Republicans they believe may —may —be gettable in support of reform...

The list and memo, which you can check out right here,is meant as a very broad, and admittedly optimistic, look at the full range of House Republicans whose support should not be completely ruled out just yet...

From the memo:

If there is a vote on comprehensive immigration reform with a path to citizenship in the House, it will pass with a bipartisan majority. If all but a handful of the House Democrats vote yes, and at least 20 Republicans from the list below come along, reform can easily clear the 218 necessary to pass the lower chamber. Looking at the list of 99 House Republicans below, it’s clear that capturing those 20 or so Republican votes is well within reach. Our target list includes several different groups of Republicans, such as...

* Republicans with growing numbers of Latino and Asian constituents. While redistrictring has temporarily insulated many House Republicans from the “demographic cliff” their party faces if it caters only to white voters, at least 38 Republican members of Congress represent heavily Latino districts ...These include California Republicans Jeff Denham, David Valadao, Gary Miller, Buck McKeon and Devin Nunes; Colorado Republican Mike Coffman; Florida Republicans Mario Diaz-Balart and Illeana Ros-Lehtinen (both of whom are longtime supporters of immigration reform); New York Republicans Peter King and Michael Grimm; and Nevada Republican Joe Heck.

You've GOT to be kidding.

The GOP does not care -- and never has.
Here is how they reacted the last time.

KILL the BILL!
Call your Rep, fax them, and for sure, email them.

Call the House leadership, fax them and email them.

We have no more than a week to do this. It’s now or never for us to make our stand. Ask your congressman to take his/her stand.

Link to all the phone, faxes, and emails for every Congress Member .

Have at it.

Speaker Boehner is playing games with his link. Try as I have, I can't live link his e-mail form like I did last week. Here it is for you all to cut and paste into your browsers:

Apparently these Republicans were picked because they have agricultural interests in their districts. Citizenship for illegals will not serve agricultural interests. Once they’re citizens and on welfare and with Obamaphones why would they work in the fields? If we ended welfare there would be more than enough American citizen agricultural workers now.

Also, agriculture is becoming increasingly automated.

Ag and urban Hispanic districts. The point is the Dems have a list of targets and are executing a game plan. The GOP is just bumbling around painting themselves into a corner. No fight in them at all. One cheese eating surrender party after another. I am so done voting for these beltway GOP losers.

The pressure has been working...the Farm Bill...immigration reform so far....and I am all in favor of that. Having said that, this piece is just mental masturbation on the part of the WaPo.

Ahhh,
This would be Bohner’s Plan C, pass the Senate bill with ~ 20 GOP house members votes. If he got those votes for the Senates VAWA I dont see why he wont get them for this, if he goes this route.

Dems seem to be counting on this one. And it doesnt require a GOP House bill be passed either.

The House does not have to pass the Senate Bill. They can pass one of their own. It then goes to reconcillation . then the Senate provisions are added.

Yep, this one’s a lose/lose? Do you believe the WashPo? (no) Do you trust Boehner? ( no). Something’s gotta give. Or in this case, something’s gotta hold - that doesn’t normally hold.....
