A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
Illinois enacts nations final concealed-gun law.
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) Illinois became the last state in the nation to allow public possession of concealed guns as lawmakers rushed Tuesday to finalize a proposal ahead of a federal courts deadline. Both chambers of the Legislature voted to override changes Gov. Pat Quinn made to the bill they approved more than a month ago. Even some critics of the law argued it was better to approve something rather than risk the courts allowing virtually unregulated concealed weapons in Chicago, which has endured severe gun violence in recent months. The Senate voted 41-17 in favor of the override Tuesday afternoon after the House voted 77-31, margins that met the three-fifths threshold needed to set aside the amendatory veto. Quinn had used his veto authority to suggest changes such as prohibiting guns in restaurants that serve alcohol and limiting gun-toting citizens to one firearm at a time.
God Forbid!
Until the unenfringed RIGHT to keep and bear arms is recognized and respected by all governments within these United States, we're not done.
Respectful silence.
Wait! Look out the window! Was that a pig I just saw flying?
Illinois gun control attempts don’t seem to be working out for Illinois and Chicago so well.
Yup. One thing to have it on paper, another for government and officials to recognize citizens can do it without harassing them and fining them and jailing them. Wisconsin has had such a history.
Well done, Illinoisans! It’s a long step foward.
Final? Probably 90% of the population of California cannot get a CA carry license. That goes for several other blue states as well with “may issue”, ie. corrupt, licensing systems.
It ain’t perfect but its a step forward.
Yep, but this is a “shall issue” state now. After 16 hours training, OK...but still....
LOL!
***UPDATE***
Governor irrelevant is now licking his wounds after an epic ass kicking by his OWN PARTY.
At a press conference today, he cried in his beer at his irrelevance, and again took a swipe at thee NRA, a group comprised of citizens that include people in Illinois OUTSIDE Chicago, which Mr. Quinn keeps forgetting even exsists south of I-80 or west of I-294.
Members of the Illinois House could not even manage to pass follow-up legislation that included a few of the critical changes that I outlined last week, such as improved mental health reporting and the duty to immediately inform law enforcement officers of the possession of a loaded concealed weapon,” said Quinn. “Yet, despite my objections, members of the General Assembly surrendered to the National Rifle Association in the waning days of session and passed a flawed bill that allows people to carry guns in establishments that serve alcohol, and allows people to carry unlimited guns and unlimited high-capacity ammunition magazines.”
Governor irrelevant, who didn’t even send someone from his office to defend his changes before the house vote, is expected to be given a glass of warm milk and put for a nap.
Reports that he will be given remedial geography lessons to reveal the thousands of square miles of Illinois NOT in the city of Chicago; and remedial civics lessons to help him understand that palling around with Michael Pfleger and using kids as props at press conferences that only seem to be in Chicago these days are NOT effective substitutes for a governor that actually matters, could not be confirmed by his office.
A state police search team has been dispatched to locate Quinn’s lost relevance.
Lookee at what our neighbor is doing!
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
A state police search team has been dispatched to locate Quinns lost relevance.
The state police should probably save themselves all the time and trouble: Quinn's relevance doubtless vanished into the same black hole as the F, the B, and the I's.
I noted that the Illinois police now have six months to set up a system to issue. So that means that Illinois will finally get some gun liberty beginning on the 10th of January.
I noted also their estimate of 300,000 applications. There are some 12.9 million people in Illinois. I suspect the actual number will be around one million to start. Then two million, 3 million.
Maybe by then some ammo will be available . . .
In name.
But there are some other states where it’s pretty much impossible to get a permit.
Absolutely. I’m happy for IL. Great step forward.
Just bitter about (most of) CA. :)
