SPRINGFIELD-Illinois joined 49 other states Tuesday by approving legislation allowing gun owners to carry their weapons in public places, overriding Gov. Pat Quinn and dealing the governor a resounding defeat.

The Senate put the finishing touches on the override push, voting 41-17 to reject a series of changes Quinn had recommended to the concealed-carry legislation that passed in May. The Senate’s action followed a 77-31 vote by the House earlier Tuesday.

Looks like IL just went shall-issue CCW. Somehow, I have to believe Chicago will find a way to thwart this. I hope not.

This vote has got to be ringing alarms all over. Is the Dem hold on this issue getting loose. You bet it is and local politicians recognize it. They want to be re-elected.

and it’s a safe vote for them. ccw folks are the safest group of gun owners out there.

The ruling elites will have to make some attitude adjustments. It will take some time before police management stops its overt hostility to private firearms ownership.

Now if we could just loosen up the CCW and OC standards in California... as it is, if one doesn’t have a Constitutional sheriff, there is just no way.

I am in Kern County (CA) and it is pretty close to shall-issue here. Our sheriffs campaign at our local gun clubs and gun show. If they aren't pro-CCW, they don't get elected.

I'm in the County of Santa Cruz. Need I say more?

I thought that if they didn’t pass it on a certain date, they would be mandated to have constitutional carry.

They did pass it, the guv vetoed it and today their congress over-rode the veto and it is thus law. I haven't read it yet, but suspect it probably has some glitches.

I have a real problem having to pay $150 for a five year permit to protect myself from the gang-banking thugs in Chicago ....

F'em. I'll have a Utah Conceal/Carry permit shortly (good in Illinois) and they can shove their $150 fee to exercise my Second Amendment rights, right up their political asses.

Just found this snippet......

Speaking of non residents, they as of right now get to carry a loaded handgun in a car. Not Illinois residents though, not even with a non resident permit. This law was very careful to discriminate against us Illinois folks.
