Skip to comments.Poll: Christie still worries Iowa conservatives, gives GOP best shot against Clinton

TRENTON Gov. Chris Christie gives the GOP the best chance to defeat Hillary Clinton in a presidential faceoff, but Iowas Republicans view him least favorably among the field of possible nominees, according to a poll out today.
The split has dogged Christie since he antagonized conservatives by praising President Obamas leadership during Hurricane Sandy. The bipartisan tone Christie struck with the Democratic White House endeared him to New Jersey's liberal electorate, but he will need to woo Iowas first-in-the nation caucus-goers should he seek his partys nomination in 2016.
Theres absolutely no doubt that Governor Christie would be the strongest Republican in the general election, said Tom Jensen, director of Public Policy Polling. Theres sort of this weird dichotomy. He has the most Republicans unhappy with him, but the most moderates and independents who are happy with him. The findings are part of a Public Policy Polling survey of Hawkeye State voters conducted July 5 to 7. The poll queried 668 Iowa voters with a 3.8 percent margin of error and a smaller group of 250 Republican caucus-goers with a 6.2 percent margin of error.

Christie will flame out.
PPP polls 668 Republicans because two less would show bias. /s
No beached whales for POTUS!!
So says Christie's advance man.
ultra lib polling outfit....
... How many times must we travel down this road? Don’t nominate a conservative, most conservatives don’t bother - either don’t vote, or show lackluster support. Liberal vs liberal just means the most liberal will win the race.
Offer a choice! Or don’t even bother showing up.
(I'm sorry...my bad)
I honestly don’t think he is interested in being President.
Christie versus Clinton. Why bother?
In that case, I agree with him. I'm not interested in him being President, either.
crispie creme couldn’t beat his own...........
Two Election cycles and you folks still want to deny some of these polls that come out on the basis of being politically biased.
What we have learned is that
(1) Stupid people do come out in greater numbers to vote in POTUS contests.
This poll has us talking about Christie (RINO), and yet the fact Hillary Clinton is even a serious contender after all that has come out about Benghazi is astounding, but is not surprising given the growing ignorance and indifference of the voting population.
In OH, unless we run an actual conservative, it ain’t happening. Every major pollster voting model (myself included) whiffed big time on Franklin County. Coupled with Cuyahoga, Lucas, and liberal gains in Hamilton, OH is in danger of turning into PA where there won’t be enough votes in the state to make up the difference. Romney ran much better than previous GOPers in Eastern OH, particularly the coal region. These areas supported Clinton in the primaries last time around and will probably return blue if she is in the next election. The only way to counter this is to run an actual conservative candidate to contrast liberalism who can effectively articulate those principles.
Perhaps Ted Cruz will throw his hat in, now that Rubio has done himself enormous damage with the immigration issue. Maybe Rand Paul. Christie or Jeb Bush will be there, and I suspect Newt Gingrich will be back whether people want him or not. I doubt any of the other ‘12 contenders will be back.
He probably can’t even see his own...
BS. Same old tried and disproven formula: nominate a RINO moderate who'll pander to the mushy middle and then take the conservative Replican base 100% for granted because they have nowhere else to go.
Of course, these genuises never learn that the base can and does stay home when offered another RINO. And they might some day soon learn that the conservative base can and will shift their support to independents, or even form a third party.
Christie doesn’t give the GOP a shot at anything, let alone Clinton. They are pretty much the same.
Dems would be nuts to run Hillary. Americans just don’t like her.
“Christie versus Clinton.”
Opposite sides of the same coin.
East Coast (Strike One!)
Liberal (Strike Two!)
RINO (Strike Three!)
Why would anyone vote for Christie when they could vote for a REAL Democrat?
I’ve only missed one Presidential election, 2008, because I was in hospital for emergency surgery; but if Christie is the candidate in 2016, I’m staying home! I just today received ANOTHER mailing from the RNC. It went, UNOPENED, into what was known in the Army as “the $h!tcan”.
He quasi-endorsed Obama, perhaps deliberately to leave 2016 open for himself or punish Romney for not selecting him as VP. Fat piece of crap.
I’m with you.
