On a voice vote on Wednesday, the D.C. Council unanimously approved a bill that will allow anatomical males and females who have undergone “gender transition” to get a new birth certificate listing the gender they choose.
Mayor Vincent Gray, a Democrat, is expected to sign the bill, which will then face a 30-day period for congressional review. If Congress does not intervene, the law will go into effect following that review period.
The JaParker Deoni Jones Birth Certificate Equality Amendment Act of 2013 – named for a transgender man who was stabbed to death in 2012 -- amends the Vital Records Act of 1981 and directs that the D.C. Registrar “shall issue a new birth certificate that reflects the new gender designation of an individual born in the District of Columbia.”
The bill requires from a parent, guardian, or legal representative “a statement, signed under penalty of law, by a health-care provider licensed in the District of Columbia who has treated or evaluated the individual stating that the individual has undergone surgical, hormonal, or other medically appropriate treatment for a gender transition.”
The bill also ends the practice of marking birth certificates as “amended,” and states that a new birth certificate will be issued and the original birth certificate “sealed.”
“This is a huge victory,” Lisa Mottet, director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force’s Transgender Civil Rights Project, said in a statement issued following the vote.
“D.C. now has the best law on birth certificates in the country,” Mottet said.

As Orwell so clearly says in 1984, “Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two makes four. If that is granted, all else follows.” The corollary of that is is statement, “In times of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.”
And now we can fully understand what he was talking about. We have entered an age where historical records of obvious truth can be altered to state definite lies. Thus, records become meaningless.
We are witnessing the actual creation of the “memory hole.” It will only get worse.

Birth certificates record the SEX of the person, not the GENDER. Words have GENDER, people have a SEX.
More likely, we will be kicked out. You understand that this stuff is getting through because most Americans now think it is just right.
This was done a long time ago, because my half-sister was born in 1952 and adopted by my father when he married my mother in 1957. She had a reissued birth certificate listing my dad as the father.
Like many things, this was done for right reasons (to eliminate the stigma of adoption), but had unintended consequences. Then in the 1970s and 1980s all of these adopted kids started looking for their natural parents and there was no paper trail. Or worse, what about genetic risks associated with certain races and ethnic groups? What if a natural parent died of a congenital disease?
Now you can get a birth certificate reissued with a different gender, never mind how many X and Y chromosomes you have.
Facts do not matter.
What is next? Changing your birth race? Changing your birth date? Changing your birth location? Why not?
This is so discriminatory, I see it being thrown out.
