Microsoft has collaborated closely with U.S. intelligence services to allow users' communications to be intercepted, including helping the National Security Agency to circumvent the company's own encryption, top-secret documents obtained Thursday by the British Guardian show.

The files provided by Edward Snowden illustrate the scale of co-operation between Silicon Valley and the intelligence agencies over the last three years.

They also shed new light on the workings of the top-secret Prism program, which was disclosed by the Guardian and the Washington Post last month.

Very good reason to not use Microsoft Defender. It probably has a leak as huge as the Grand Canyon.

Precisely! People will come out and say they will never support another Microsoft product because of this like there is an alternative out there. I said it before that I have run out of products to boycott.

My last MS office suite was 2007. I would never purchase another MS Office product again at the present prices. Now I use open office. It’s really all I need. We use mostly spread sheets and word processing so open office is good enough and the price is right. I don’t even mind paying but office 2013 is just too expensive.

Remember when the Feds went after Microsoft for Anti-Trust violations? At the time we thought it was all about their not having lobbyists who passed out political contributions. Then the charges seemed to be dropped, and the Feds continued to use Microsoft products in a big way. Maybe it was a shakedown to get Microsoft to play nice with the NSA?
