Cornyn, Cruz vote against Obama ATF nominee; Cornyn says Jones would ‘infringe’ on Texans’

Over the objections of Texas Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday approved the nomination of B. Todd Jones as director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives on a 10-to-8 party line vote Thursday, sending his confirmation to the Senate floor in spite of Republican opposition.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., characterized the opposition to Jones as part of Republicans’ “concerted effort to weaken” the agency.

The committee’s top Republican, Chuck Grassley of Iowa, conceded that “you might generally say that some Republicans don’t want anybody to be confirmed for ATF,” but insisted that he was not among them and was protecting the rights of whistleblowers.

Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, also said in a statement that he would not vote to move Jones’s nomination forward, citing Jones’s “troubling track record” and “lack of leadership and accountability.”

“As a committed defender of Texans’ Second Amendment rights, I have serious concerns that Mr. Jones would infringe on these rights,” Cornyn said.

Congress in 2006 required Senate confirmation of the ATF director. But the Senate has never confirmed anyone to serve in the position.

Uh the F&F "agency" needs to be abolished, with prejudice.

I'm not sure the government can infringe upon our 2nd Amendment rights, without..infringing upon our 2nd amendment rights.

John Cornyn = McCain

He’ll do anything now to court the conservative Texas vote, then he’ll screw us over the next 5 1/2 years, then the last 6 months before reelection, he turns conservative.

Fooled Texans twice. Third time I’m withholding my vote, you mean spiteful Tea Party hater. Hope someone decent runs against him in the primary, but at this point I’d even vote D to get rid of him.

I fear he’ll burn Ted Cruz if he wins reelection. It would go along with his MO to cozy up to conservatives then dump them after the election.

You got that. The RINO elites get special permission from their masters to vote conservative for a brief period immediately before their re-election. Yep, this guy needs to be primaried out big time . . .
