Seems like Obama did not have the goods on any Texas legislator in getting them to vote his way.

An immoral, unconstitutional bill. The Texas Code now describes a class of sub-humans who are not accorded Fifth or Fourteenth Amendment equal protection for their supreme God-given, unalienable right, the right to live.

Which not only contradicts the U.S. Constitution, it contradicts their own Code.

Arbitrary, capricious, unreasonable, illogical, lawless law-making.

The media will use this to terrorize voters, but I believe it can be easily countered. 20 weeks is 5 months and plenty of time to kill your baby.

One of the challenges conservatives and liberals have is overreach. The voters don’t want radical change unless it is easy and brings outsized benefits, quickly. The Dems overreached and forgot the economy.

The GOP needs to focus on jobs and the economy first and social policy second and incrementally. History proves that if you bring prosperity the voters love you and will let you steer conservative. We often get that backwards.

Why couldn’t Texas of all states pass an outright ban?

Texas took up Obama’s promise to make abortions “more rare”. I’m sure Obama will soon announce congratulations for Texas doing so.

Five seconds after the Gov signs it into law, the Pro-Aborts will be at the court house steps with papers in hand. Abortion and gay marriage will be the triggers for CWW II - SEX is the left’s religion and nothing must stand it their way of all perversion and their culture of death.

The bill would ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy and hold abortion clinics to the same standards as hospital-style surgical centers, among other requirements

It's a good step in the right direction and I applaud Perry and the Texas GOP for "standing their ground."

as TEX has 36 Congressional districts, them state Senate districts are mighty big. Everything is big down there.

Happy to see this result!

But for all the debate back and forth on this thread alone, valuable time has been wasted from "ending abortion."

Mother Teresa has been repeatedly quoted regarding her Clinton Breakfast Speech (on abortion). Everyone I know who is pro-life agrees with her too. Soooooo, why are many of these same people not following her advice for how to end abortion? (See my tagline.)

And MT's good earthly friend, Fr. John A. Hardon, agreed with her, when he said:
There is no stopping abortion without an ocean of grace from Jesus Christ. No way will human means stop abortion...The principal source of this grace is the Holy Eucharist.
