Why Chris Christie could save the GOP from itself
The Washington Post ^ | July 12, 2013 | Sean Sullivan

Perhaps no other politician enjoys the cross-party likability that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) is sporting these days. And that’s why he may just be the key to the Republican Party repairing its brand in the coming years.

[...]

But if Christie’s numbers hold up over time, it will be hard to argue there is a better ambassador for the GOP to expand its reach. And the power of the electability argument that Christie would be able to make in the 2016 primary shouldn’t be underestimated. Washington Post-ABC News polling consistently showed Republicans felt in the 2012 primary that Mitt Romney had the best shot in the general election.

Good grief! We will probably get Christie-Rubio. Another nose-holding ticket.

Bush actually ran as a compassionate conservative not a real one. At least he was honest.

Its so interesting when liberal rags are suddenly “concerned” for the republican party with ideas to save it.... when the rest of their pages are on articles to destroy it...

Why Chris Christie could save the GOP from itself

The author of this article should go into business selling warm bowls of $hit for consumption.

He'd have as much success as this article.

An endorsement from Washington Compost is more like an indictment IMO.

Same old crappola. GOPe will be taking advice from the Dems on how to improve their electability. Insane. How could people who would fall for that even be capable of potty training?

And the GOPe will lap this up like it is the Gospel.

We may disagree with Christie but atleast he doesnt stab us in the back. But I think there are others we can get behind then Chris Christie.

Are you serious? Do you realize just how close we are to losing this Republic to the evil left?

I am praying that 2012 was a watershed event for Conservatives. Never again will I cast a vote for any RINO.

Do you not understand that with Christie as President The power of the State will continue to grow.

Christie has no problem with big government -- he just wants to make it "efficient."

When and IF the evil GOPe realizes that Conservatives will NEVER again vote for Statists, then things may change.

Conservatives should never again cast their vote for the lesser of two evils.

It is my belief that the Power of the State at all levels is such that only a cataclysmic event will afford the opportunity to roll back the unconstitutional parts of the Federal leviathan.

Yeah. How about Christie and Charlie Christ? That’s the Rino dream ticket. Christie/Christ. Fat/Faggot. Both traitors.

“His positions on issues makes him a liberal rino.”

He is pro-life and has capped our property tax increases resulting in thousands of government workers losing their jobs in NJ.

RINO? He won election with those positions.

True. He was far from perfect, but ran a much more conservative campaign than either since. He was weak on a few issues and triangulated on a few others. He was able to motive the base to show up, and won because he did. McCain and Romney cold not. Christie probably couldn’t either.

I actually like Christie, but he’s definitely showed his weaknesses in the past 10 months and I have no interest in him entering national politics. He’d probably be a great senator down the road. He’d be a vote on on a lot of issues we would never get from NJ otherwise.

There they go again. The commie libs pretending to worry about the GOP “brand” and advising them how they can get everyone to like them.

The Washington Post must be running him for President.

he can run, but he won’t get any votes from me. I never could stand ass-kissers.

If the GOP just wants to be a Democrat-light type of party, which would be the death of them (which is what the Dems want anyway, so....).

Libs want a 2 party system that gives them a choice. They do not want a conservative, Constitutional alternative to their Marxist party. They are advising the Republicans to become a liberal party with distinctions that reflect subtle differences in approach to the same principles. This allows them to make a choice between 2 equals.
Conservatives want the same thing liberals want. They each want to destroy the other’s ability to mount a viable political program. So far the libs are winning. They are effectively defining the opposition and creating boundaries beyond which Republicans in power are not allowed to go.
