A man allegedly assaulted and robbed by six teens during a "boredom beating" in North College Hill has died.
Pat Mahaney, 46, passed away Friday at University of Cincinnati Medical Center a little less than a year after the vicious beating that caused him to suffer internal bleeding and put him in the hospital for four days.
Investigators determined the teens instigated the August 2012 attack because they were "bored" and looking for something to do.
North College Hill Police Chief Gary Foust said the juveniles jumped Mahaney from behind, hit him in the head and knocked him to the ground with a six-pack of beer he had just purchased.
"As they were approaching the individual they actually discussed this event, before actually doing the event," Foust said.

Hey, kids, here's an idea. If you're bored, why not beat one another up? Saves time, you don't have to go looking for someone--kind of a "Fight Club" sort of thing.
Were these “kids” someone who would look like zero’s son?
If the victim was black and the kids weren’t we’d probably know for sure who is who.

College kids, eh? It used to be that bored college students would try to see how many people they could squeeze into a phone booth, or how many goldfish they could swallow. Has it come to this?

A pretty good story here, with a picture of the judge in the case. Story includes this telling detail: “Since the original attack last summer, one of the 13-year-olds and another of the six suspects who is 14 have been re-arrested on new felony charges.”
