I find that hard to believe. Sounds more like a quickly made-up story to cover something truly stupid.

Anyone can see that this lawnmower repairman is a rank amateur. Anyone with a couple of seasons under their would have bolted that wheel on their bench grinder first and used it as a lathe to spin that wheel true...

A “burst?” It was an automatic weapon?

This story makes no sense. He was using the AR-15 as a crutch? What was he doing — using the front-site post to support his weight. I don’t believe this story. I think he was drunk pulling the trigger just for fun or he meant to do it. His story is not believable considering the dimensions of the rifle and the supposed girth of the man. Multiple gun shots suggest he bump fired the rifle.

How about the guy who accidentally shoots himself in the chest while cleaning a revolver? Some people are just plain stupid. However, I wonder how many of those "accidental" shootings are related to depression (I'm worth nothing to my family) combined with insurance (I'm worth $50k dead).

You have a point. How are many are actually suicides that are ruled accidental as a kindness to the survivors?

And for the insurance company it’s a tough situation. In terms of public relations, to deny payment they had better have at least clear and convincing evidence of suicide. Unless it’s a big policy, they’re probably better off paying.
