Imagine, just allow yourself to imagine ... You are in your vehicle on your way to the store one evening and you see a tall, slightly hunched over figure wobbling along the space between condominium buildings of your community in the dimness of the poorly lit sidewalk. The figure pauses in the misty rain to peer from under the sweatshirt hoodie he's wearing, to look into the back sliding doors of selected condos. It is dark and the figure is wearing dark clothing with the hood pulled full over his head, concealing his face for the most part. He is not easily seen from inside a lighted home since he is pausing between the lampposts when he stares into the homes shrouded in darkness beyond the reflecting glass.You think this might just be related to the several burglaries which have happened in the community. You recall one young mother with two toddlers whose sliding door was broken into during one episode. The young mother tried to seal herself in an upstairs bedroom, only to have the intruders –two black males wearing hoodies-- try to open the locked bedroom door. The sirens approaching is all that sent them from the break-in. You decide to pause and watch the behavior of this hoodie wearing person for a few moments. He appears to be carrying something; perhaps burglary tools?
As the figure wobbles off into the darkness, you are on the phone to the police, to report a suspicious person. The police on the other end ask you where the perp is and where you are and where the perp seems to be going. You exit your vehicle to try and give the police a clear address and directions. With the police on the cell phone line, you walk along the sidewalk behind the disappearing hoodied figure. You inform the police that the figure is getting away and you speed up the pace of your walk, telling the police on the phone that you will try to keep the figure in sight. The police inform you that they don't need you to do that. You immediately stop following.
Disgruntled that a possible perp is going to get away, you plod back toward your vehicle. While you're talking to the police the hoodied figure suddenly appears and confronts you menacingly, demanding to know if you have a problem with him. The hoodied figure is considerably taller than you, seems to be in his late teens, and posing an angry figure indeed.
You exchange words with the figure, seeking to defuse the situation, waiting for some police presence to appear. The hoodied figure strikes out at you, suddenly, slamming down on your nose hard enough to break your nose and send you to the ground in the wet grass. Your eyes instantly tear up when your nose is smashed. You cannot get a clear view of the menacing figure above you. The attacker is immediately upon you slamming blows down upon your face and arms as you roll around trying to get the straddling, larger than you, attacking, black male off of you.
A nearby resident hollers at you both, informing you that they are going to call the police. You continue screaming for help, screaming into the darkness beside the concrete sidewalk where the mounting attacker is trying to slam your head into the edge of the walkway concrete. He succeeds in glancing your head off of the concrete a couple of times and you realize that if you do not act immediately, this attacker could knock your brains out, leaving your family to bury you. Your instinct for survival drives your hand deep into your pocket, to grasp the little KelTec .380 you have a license to carry concealed. Instincts are pushing you now. You get the pistol out just far enough that the attacker sees it! He grabs at it and you pull the trigger, firing the pistol upward at the attacker's chest looming over your bloody face. The gun isn't quite far enough free from the clothing from which you've tried to draw it, so the slide does not cycle fully, to pick-up a second round. You would keep firing to save yourself if the gun would cycle!
There is suddenly only the ringing in your ears of the round going off. The attacker appears to freeze for a split second above you.The first bullet has struck a vital organ and the attacker rolls off of you and clutches his chest.
You realize that you have been screaming all the time you were rolling around and finally firing the gun to stop the attacker. You fall silent until a resident rushes to the scene, a resident who recognizes you. The attacker has rolled onto his back and his arms have spread out from his chest. He is unconscious. You try to check him, to see if you can actually help this attacker who only a moment before was trying to kill you!
The police finally arrive. Residents with back doors toward the walkway are coming out of their homes, to assess the commotion. One asks if you're all right and if they can get your wife on the phone. You tell them to say you've shot someone. Things rush on, but you are in a daze, exhausted and yet trying to be helpful to the questioning police. The medics arrive and begin cleaning up your wounds. Someone behind you says the attacker is dead. Your heart sinks. You feel faint, drained of emotion suddenly, with the realization that you've had to kill someone in order to save your own life. But the attacker seemed young; strong, determined, very angry, mean even, but young!
The Police Chief in your town reviews the evidence and concludes that you have done nothing for which prosecution is warranted, so he allows you to go free, back to your community and your family. ... But after weeks pass, there are forces with racial agendas and political opportunists who decide this is too good to let this incident go to waste!
You become the focus of a national spectacle as the government you voted for now wants to use you as a tool to attack gun rights, to attack your state's Stand-Your-Ground laws. The same government you voted to help get elected is now working to destroy you and your family, in their political quest. You are arrested, jailed, and your life turned upside down, as the full weight of an agenda driven government attacks you with full complicity of a crazed regime sycophant cadre of media. The Police Chief who released you is subsequently fired and a more racially satisfactory person appointed in his place.
This new Policeman will do as the regime running the United States Justice Department directs him to do. Gradually, it becomes apparent that the regime wants to fabricate a crisis, a crisis that they will not let go to waste now that they have a mixed racial incident in a swing state –a state that the regime seeks to swing into the “D” column.
To build the tension, the un Justice Department directs local operatives to pursue an outlandish charge of Murder in the Second Degree. This same Justice Department regime even sends funds to organize the racially oriented demonstrations, to put enough pressure on the local government that they do as they are told. The federal regime fully intends to exploit black people and feed to them lies upon lies about what happened that night when you stopped to see if a wobbly figure staring into back windows in your community was perhaps one of the perps who had been breaking into condos for a past several weeks.
Can you, dear reader, imagine the weight of such evil aligned against you?
George Zimmerman doesn't have to imagine it. The Federal regime is doing exactly that, in their best tyrannical mode to force a crisis through the disgusting accomplices in Mister Zimmerman's town.

Folks thought it was bad before when people wouldn’t get involved. If Zimmerman is convicted, even more folks will think twice about being a good neighbor.

Good job. It is strange that it took so long for this story to be made public. I guess the Feds and the race baiters needed time to come up with a story that would fire up the bigots to start rioting and whining about “justice”. Also, it gave the buffoons on Capitol Hill more time to send one of their interns out to find a “hoodie” for them to wear on the floor of Congress to demonstrate their solidarity with the thugs of the world.

One minor nitpick: From what I understand, Zimmerman’s gun is a Kel-Tec PF-9. So that’s a 9mm, not .380.
Your account is exactly right from my understanding except for one thing:

I believe the female police officer who testified at the trial said Zimmerman did not know Trayvon was dead until she told him later at the police station.
Zimmerman did exactly what I would have done in the same situation. I’m not going to stand by and do nothing if I see a suspected burglar casing my neighborhood.

Thank you for the correction! I have not been able to keep up with every single piece of data on this case. As Winston posted, the caliber of the gun is also significant since it was a one shot lethality. Although, it is penetration to vitals which does the work, so even a .380 would have penetrated at the distance the weapon was fired.
Uh oh, I’m not sure I’m ready to move around in your league, Laz. But I do appreciate the notion. I really wish Travis McGee had written this. He is an author of novels and has a tremendous way with painting a scene. My novels are not that sort of material.

If someone who CCW’s came across Zimmerman getting his head repeatedly smashed into the concrete, they could have legally shot Martin. Yet Zimmerman is not allowed to defend himself?????

It has crossed my mind that perhaps George did Trayvon a favor. The young man was on the wrong road and racing as fast as he could toward a life of extreme thuggery in a racially charged nation. After what Trayvon tried to do to George, can we reasonably expect that he would not have succeeded in killing one or more people had his life of thuggery continued? ... There is a story from Buddhism focused upon this notion, IIRC.

Just imagine if we elected principled people to office instead of lesser evils at all levels of government. GZ would be a free man today. Instead, the lesser evils didn’t want to be called racists and so went willingly along with the left’s race-mongering BS to put up a sacrifice.

That’s part of the reason for this trial in the first place. A big part of it. The good neighbor is now considered the bad guy. They want the good neighbor to get out of the way and stop interfering. The thugs who used to be the bad guys are now the victims, and by default they are the new “good guys”. That’s how a big, powerful guy with a history of causing trouble can be portrayed in court as a harmless child with candy. Because the country has been turned inside-out and upside down, and now it’s hip to be on the wrong side of things. They WANT you to stop being a good neighbor, but they don’t care if the thugs keep doing what they’re doing.

well thank you! I am onbe of perhaps thousands who would open my home to George and his family if they decide to abandon the Floriduh fen. And I mean that sincerely, willingly accepting the costs that would arise. If We The People do not defend MEN like George Zimmerman, then we the people are a ruled not a sovereign people. Tyranny is raging about the land and is focused on George Zimmerman right now. But that same tyranny will not stop raging until we the people end it.
As others have noted, the prosecution, indeed the entire Scheme Team, appealed to emotion to further their agenda. With ungodly liberals, everything is about feelings. They rally emotions to enrage a mob. To them, the law is nothing more than a tool to bludgeon those with whom they disagree and want to destroy.
Zimmerman is living a nightmare. I can feel the guy’s pain and to have to sit there a take a character assassination for hours from some ass hat prosecutor would be unbearable. God help this man.

Exactly. They may not be able to circumvent/cancel the 2nd A. directly, but if they can make it effectively cancelled because people are afraid of defending themselves for fear of doing jail time, they have accomplished the same goal.

This entire affront has nothing to do with TM or civil rights or money or GZ. This is about attacking gun rights in a strong second amendment state. This is how the liberals play the game. If this whole scheme could be exposed it would go all the way up. What folks need to understand iswehave a Republican AG Pam Bondi and possibly the Governor who conspired with the DOJ and the White Hut to create a case against CCW, stand your ground, and self defence. They did it to use the courts instead of ballot, as liberals always do. The lawyers and the judges go along because they hate these laws. It prevents them sueing people in civil courts that use guns to defend themselves. This is the same tactic they were using in fast and furious to attack the second amendment.
If successful the perpetually pissed off civil rights groups they used to do this would get the payoff for their part in civil litigation. Our courts are now figuratively lynching innocent people for their help higher cause. Welcome to the new America.
Had not heard that. What a chilling indictment of a treacherous, tyrannical regime! George was released after Police review of the shoot, not even charged for weeks, not until the regime pushed for the crisis scenario they are now exploiting in order to further divide Americans. Sadly for We The People, fellow black Americans cannot comprehend how they are being exploited by this regime.
P.P.S. Besides imagining myself in George’s shoes, I’ve imagined myself as a juror in this trial. I think you know I am a pedant when it comes to legal details. Even with all of the evidence and testimony I heard during the trial, I would still review each and every piece again during deliberations. I would examine the evidence from all perspectives: self-defense, 2nd degree murder, and manslaughter. I’ve thought long and hard about this. Could I acquit George based on self-defense regardless of the possible consequences to myself, my children, my friends, and my community? The answer is yes. Right is always right. It shouldn’t be compromised to ensure security or to further an agenda.
As Rush would say, Right on, right on!
I actually had expected that, at some point in the closing, the lawyer would have done a 5-minute narrative something like that, as part of his “certainly this is one reasonable explanation for the events, which matches all the evidence.”
