Five people were killed and at least 16 other people -- including four teenagers and a 72-year-old woman -- were wounded in shootings across the city since Friday night.
The most recent fatal shooting occurred late Sunday in the Lawndale neighborhood, when 35-year-old Ernest J. Carter and a woman were sitting in a car parked in the 4000 block of West Cullerton Street, authorities said.
About 11 p.m., two gunmen approached the pair on foot, opening fire into the car from behind, police said.
Both were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with gunshot wounds to the back. Carter, of the 4000 block of West 21st Street, was struck multiple times and died at Mount Sinai Hospital at 11:45 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said. The woman, 37, was in serious condition, police said.
Earlier Sunday afternoon a man was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head in the 1600 block of West Jonquil Terrace in the Rogers Park neighborhood, police said. The body of 22-year-old Blake Lamb was found about 3:45 p.m.
Lamb, of the 7600 block of North Bosworth Avenue, had been shot multiple times.
About an hour earlier on the South Side, a teen boy died after he was shot in the back in the South Deering neighborhood about 2:50 p.m., police said.

Absolutely, I used to own a couple of guns but they got liquored up one day and went tearin’ down the road shootin’ everthang in sight, lucky they didn’t hit no people, they wound up in the river and drowned so I just left ‘em there, don’t want no more guns, no sir, can’t trust ‘em. If anybody wants to rob me or kill me or sumpin I’ll just tell ‘em they got to make an appointment a day ahead so I can try to get a deputy here to deal with ‘em. Anybody that really wants to commit a crime shouldn’t object to makin’ an appointment, should they?

Allegedly, depending on the victims, autopsies can take some time for homicides, which delays investigations. Cases are prioritized based on case circumstances. Gang on gang Vs. Gang on child Vs. Child victim Vs. Upper Class homicide.... they triage the cases when the bodies come in.

There were 1893 shootings in Chicago last year. In 94% of the cases the perp got away scot-free. There is no deterrent from the police or from within the “community”. It is a totally foreign culture that is hostile to our values and beliefs. It is dangerous.
