Europe's Jews Call for Unity Over Polish Shechita Ban

The European Jewish Association (EJA) on Monday called on all Jewish organizations throughout the world to put aside their differences and unite all their efforts towards reversing the Polish parliament’s decision to ban kosher slaughter in the country, reported the European Jewish Press (EJP).

On Friday, the lower house of the Polish parliament, the Sejm, rejected a government-sponsored bill to enable the continuation of kosher shechita, or slaughter of animals intended for food.

Ritual slaughter has been banned in Poland since January 1 after a Constitutional Court deemed it incompatible with animal rights law.

“We must unite all our efforts to fight this legislation which can potentially contribute to Jewish exclusion and to violate Jewish freedom of religion and worship throughout Europe, specifically in Poland, with all its symbolic significance to Jewish history,” said EJA Director General Rabbi Menachem Margolin, according to EJP. …

well, the issue is not about the blood draining -- it's whether the animal should be stunned before the blood draining. In other methods, the animal is stunned and unconscious when it's throat is slit and life slowly ebbs away.

In Kosher, from what I understand, the animal must be conscious (I could be wrong, but that's what I understand happens)

As to whether the kosher method is crueler than the other (when the aim for both is the same, killing an animal), I don't know -- the Hindu argument that both are the same, killing an animal, is true.

well it is curious because it is one of the many aspects that Islam borrowed from Judaism

Even the La illah of the Moslems echoes the Sh'ma

This is understandable as the Nejd was highly influenced by Judaism (and by Arianism and Gnosticism) -- Medina was a Jewish city.

the Koran's description of Christ seems taken directly from the Gnostic gospels, most especially the "Gospel of Thomas" even to his description of Christ's birth which indicates an incorrect reading of the book of the Apocalypse of John of Patmos (which was a Gnostic favorite, which is why it was long rejected as part of canon -- and even today the Syriac Christians refuse it as part of the canon)

Islam in some ways seems a rejection of Christianity's Triune deity in favor of the strict ONE doctrine. It's also a rejection of Christianity's personal god in favor of a deity that is stern, remote, judgemental and super-controlling (there is NO free will in Islam, no science, no logical progression)

And initially the Jewish people viewed this as a religion closer to them, which is what lulled them to the danger. In Medina initial acceptance of Mohammed was turned to horror when they realised what he truly stood for, but by then it was too late and he slaughered all of them

Kosher killing involves hanging the animal by its feet and slitting the throat. Goal is to get as much of the blood out of the animal while it is alive as possible.

I saw similar methods growing up. Grandpa would “stick” pigs every once in a while, though he would stun cows with a sledge first. The last thing you want to be around is a ton of angry steer hanging in the air.

Chickens, well you just remove the head. Their heart keeps pumping for a bit and it removes most of the blood. I have had to kill hundreds of feathered fiends in my life. No clean way to do it.

“Poland has lost all my sympathy.”

LOL ! It’s not that there was much of it anyway :)))

Nevertheless it did have my sympathy after all it has been through.

I realize there's little reason in conversing with you. You Europeans don't understand the concept of objective religious truth; all you know is "blood and soil" and the ancestral "gxds." We Americans are much more Biblically oriented (though we have our own "blood and soilers" as well), which is why we are pro-Jewish and pro-Israel. This represents the Objective G-d rather than the local and subjective "gxds" of the ancestors. To many Europeans the Bible means nothing and the Jews are merely enemies who are blamed for everything bad that has ever happened.

Kosher slaughter is a commandment of G-d A-mighty, the Creator of Heaven and Earth. But I'm sure that not only is this of no interest to you, the very concept is probably one you can't wrap your mind around.

Rather than fight here, why don't we just bid each other adieu?

OK. I prefer they be stunned, or dead, before having their throats cut.

Ironically, Poland has been moving to the left for all those 20 years since the fall of Communism. While it was only the state that was communist with its Marxist oligarchy, the nation was the most right winged in the world.

Unfortunately, 20 years of EU leftists’ propaganda did its job. For instance, graphic scenes of animals lying in a pool of blood with their throats being cut with a long knife can shake everybody.

Politicians just listen to the public which elects them every 4 years and try to get the balance right between their own viewpoints and electoral reality.

As far as I am concerned, animals as totally subordinated to people should be killed for meat with no limitations. But, bloody horrendous images of slaughtered animals in media together with the squeaky clean hysteria of top Poland’s celebrities seemed to have altered people’s perception for good.
