That Jacksonville "Golden Corral" thread was pulled --- evidently it was a bogus story, and the cops have evidence that it was a slaying over drugs, by druggies who knew each other and met up at the Golden Corral by prearrangement. I don't know one way or the other. Anyway, that thread is gone.

So I picked another thread on Zimmerman aquittal aftermath, just to respond to your point concerning "who does the choosing":

Quite right --- "you" or "I" have, perhaps, never chosen abortion, random sex hookups, porn, adultery, luring our poorer neighbors into permanent unemployment and degrading dependency, the regulatory extermination of small business, extrajudicial killing by executive order, the erection of a colossal kleptocracy, the fascist control of the major institutions of society by centralized government --- a great many things --- and yet here it is to crush us and our children unto the 3rd or 4th generaton.

When a society as a whole chooses well, everyone in that society benefits, even the ne'er-do-wells; and when a society as a whole chooses badly, the whole society suffers, even the just.

So, even if one may be uncertain that God -- who is just --- levies punishments upon the good and the bad alike, still, natural and logical consequences very often are collective and intergenerational.

Dear Mrs. Don-o,

I'm skeptical that it was really a drug deal gone south and that the Zimmerman case had nothing to do with it. At this point, anything anyone from the government says is a lie until otherwise proven true. Government folks deserve our disbelief.

Anyway, I daresay that the problem isn't that folks sin. Folks have been committing all those sins and more since somewhere shortly after the Fall, I figure (except the ones that require more technologically-advanced societies, but even still).

The problem, I think, is in the cultural embrace of sin. What is bringing judgment is not that some woman in duress seeks and obtains abortion, or some teenager - or grown man - looks at a Playboy or the modern equivalent thereof. Folks have been taking advantage of the poor, governments have, from time to time, in place to place, even in these United States, acted corruptly, greedily, etc.

I don't think that's what is bringing judgment.

What is bringing judgment is calling good evil and calling evil good. What is bringing judgment is that a nation that once had abortion forced upon it is now very accepting of abortion, at least in the early part of pregnancy. What is bringing judgment is not that homosexuals like to go to bathhouses. It's that now they do so with the approbation of the law, with the endorsement of the culture, "not that there's anything wrong with it," or so goes the trope. It's not that the government does dirty deeds, spies on its citizens, whacks its citizens, it's that the government does these things WITH THE APPROVAL OF THE ELECTORATE.

I agree with you that the innocent suffer with the guilty. That's how it is. It is precisely the natural and logical consequences, as well as the spiritual consequences, not so much of individual sins for which people are sorry and recognize as sins, but rather of a society that has come to be structured around the exaltation of the human degradation of sin.
