Radio host offers Trayvon Martin’s friend, Rachel Jeantel, full ride to black college of her choice
The Daily Caller ^ | 16 Jul 2013 | Chuck Ross

On his radio program Tuesday, radio host Tom Joyner announced that he would fully pay for Rachel Jeantel to attend a historically black college or university of her choice.

Jeantel is the friend of Trayvon Martin who was the last person to speak to him before his February 2012 death and the star witness in the trial against George Zimmerman.

Joyner told Jeantel on his radio program early Tuesday, “if you want to graduate from high school, and go to an HBCU…if you want to do that, I want to help you do that.”

Jeantel is currently 19 years old and is about to enter her senior year of high school in Miami. She’s scheduled to graduate next spring, at the age of 20.

Joyner continued, “I will help you get tutors to get you out of high school, tutors to help you pass the SAT and I will give you a full ride scholarship to any HBCU you’d like.”

Jeantel thanked Joyner and said she was “shocked” by the offer.

She also said that she’d like to pursue a career in law enforcement.

Reached for comment, the president of the National Association For Equal Opportunity in Education — the non-profit umbrella organization for America’s HBCU’s — released a statement to the Daily Caller, applauding the news.

“This generous offer typifies Dr. Tom Joyner,” Lezli Baskerville told TheDC.

“An HBCU would be an ideal environment in which Ms. Jeantel could realize her educational aspirations because of their academic excellence and signature protective, supportive, nurturing environments,” Baskerville continued.

Baskerville said that Jeantel has been “pilloried and ridiculed in the national media.”

At an HBCU, Baskerville explained, “Ms. Jeantel will be able to realize her educational aspirations in a welcoming and supportive environment.”

Rush should offer to pay for her Master’s degree.

Let’s get a bidding war going!

Uh, is there something named, “Entrance Exam”?

Depending on the amount of money involved she may well pass it right by or have it taken by proxy.

Well, I am not going to join in on the razzing here. I’m glad for her and hope she does something with it, although I’m not going to hold my breath. I’d rather see charity given than free grants paid by taxpayers.

I think several of our black multi millionaire Big Stuff entertainers ought to follow suit by sponsoring a kid from the ghetto themselves, instead of strutting around and dissing middle class whitey every chance they get. Oprah could probably put half the kids in S. Chicago through college if she wanted to.

I did think it was sad how this girl was put up and expected to come through when she’s been a product of so much dumbing down and low expectations.

dont worry

the offer is for TUTORS in high school and TUTORS to help her pass the SAT

so apparantly she cant do it on her own...

Would a college allow TUTORS to pass their entrance exam and essay etc ???

what about classes she would probably need remedial English etc

what major school will allow her to make a mockery of their requirements ???

but first she would need to finish high school

and I dont think she takes college prep clases...

You are absolutely right. The non-education of this girl is the conversation that really needs to be had.

She is 19 and just finished her Junior year in High School. She isn’t the smartest “girl.”

None of that matters with Affirmative Action. Look at who's running the country.

I think she will fit right in to the black college crowd. She certainly is above average in the smarts department and her attitude is right on target.

I’m happy for her. Some day she will be approving or disapproving your healthcare claims with all of the fairness and impartiality a person could possible hope for out of a ghetto thug sow.

Joyner continued, “I will help you get tutors to get you out of high school, tutors to help you pass the SAT and I will give you a full ride scholarship to any HBCU you’d like.”

Isn't it RACIST for him to assume she needs tutors to graduate high school and pass the SAT? Just because she is black?

Is "tutor" code for "cheater who will take your tests for you"?

I beg to differ...

a university seeing someone with a full ride (guaranteed payday) will go out of its way to admit her.

Careful Florida’s governor baldy Scott hasn’t replaced his Lt. Gov. since she resigned her position. No pun intended.
