Rioting for Trayvon, &c.
National Review ^ | 7/17/2013 | Jay Nordlinger

Posted on 07/17/2013 6:52:03 AM PDT by Servant of the Cross

You’ve probably seen this news, but have a dose anyway: “Protesters ran through Los Angeles streets Monday night, breaking windows, attacking people on sidewalks and at one point raiding a Wal-Mart store . . .”

Nothing says “Honor Trayvon” like vandalizing, accosting, and stealing, right? You can either laugh or weep — emphasis on the latter.

* A headline: “Obamas to return to Martha’s Vineyard this summer.” (Article here.) And in a Bob Costa post, I read that more than 20 Democratic senators have already been in Martha’s Vineyard, holding meetings or something.

Never forget: The Republican party is the party of the rich, pampered, and carefree. I’ve heard it since childhood, and so have you, I bet. And Mitt Romney? Too “plutocratic” to be president.

* This was interesting: A North Korean ship was returning home from Cuba. The Panamanians stopped the ship. There were sugar containers, as you might expect. But in those containers were parts for missiles. Well, we should expect that too.

Isn’t it nice that the Norks and the Castros are in bed? They are a perfect match. The Castros’ many, many supporters here in the U.S. must be proud.

The North Korean captain, by the way, tried to kill himself, as his ship was being searched. I take it he was following orders. (“If your ship is searched, off yourself, so you can’t talk.”) I wish some clear-thinking John le Carré — i.e., not le Carré himself — were around to novelize this.

Many many decades ago I was involved in a college seminar and found myself isolated and embattled for offering the idea that along with the right to practice one's religion and express oneself, the right to own and protect private property was fundamental to a just and orderly society.

One must understand this occurred in the 1960s, before Kennedy's assassination, before Vietnam, before we lost the Constitution, when Republicans could still win in California, before the culminating legislation of the civil rights struggle. I was more than surprised when the academics around the conference table turned so vehemently against private property. Worse, they dismissed the idea out of hand as preposterous.

Appeals to authority, to the recognition of property rights in the Bill of Rights availed me nothing. I was young and dumb and full of earnestness so I actually thought that the discussion was about how a just American Republic emerged historically. It was intellectually bewildering. I did not know that the discussion was really about how to transform the established order to impose social justice.

If one concedes a place to private property on the scale of ordered liberty, one pretty much restricts the options of community organizers. So the attack on property began. Hypotheticals were reviewed going back to the late Middle Ages when wealthy landowners set snares to injure poachers. More recent cases involving shotguns rigged to shoot intruders entering abandoned mountain cabins were discussed. The right to invoke deadly force in defense of property as distinguished from the defense of one's person was analyzed. In each case it was solemnly concluded that the right to property was infinitely inferior to the right and need to preserve life.

Ah, the slippery slope.

Not long after this excursion into theory in the Academy I was exposed to the race riots of 1967 where the question of the defense of property became something more than academic. As America faced race riot after race riot with their unprecedented distruction of property, our society moved inexorably away from the protection of property and toward immunizing those who destroyed it. It is not necessary here rehearse all the rationalizations justifying this kind of appeasement, it is sufficient to say that they were all inherently Marxist.

To those who say that the George Zimmerman trial is of small importance and unworthy of the attention it is getting, I say it marks a watershed point from which history will say the left did to self-defense what it had done to property.

They are equally destructive when the Lakers win a big game.

I lived in Los Angeles from March 1964 to May 1993. Won’t fo back, unless it is to help drive a friend’s vehicles & horses out of there. I fear more every day for their safety.

Great story and history lesson. Thank you for sharing this! Very important and highlights just how crucial this debate is at this time. Like with the previous attack on property, this is either the watershed for self-defense or it is the time for the pendulum to swing back to the Constitution and personal freedom. Property rights are absolutely fundamental to personal freedom. Here's how FReeper C. Edmund Wright put it in the last chapter (pg. 337) of his recent book (WTF: How Karl Rove and the Establishment Lost ... Again) ...

FISCAL V MORAL:

John Adams stated, “our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” He also said "the moment the idea is admitted into society that property is not as sacred as the law of God, and that there is not a force of law and public justice to protect it, anarchy and tyranny commence." What? Property is as sacred as anything else in the mind of a God fearing Founder? That’s what he said.

Translation: Property is what you receive in exchange for your God given time and talents, and therefore is the expression of the sanctity of life outside the womb, which like life inside the womb, is indeed sacred. It is the issue we all share, whether we realize it or not, because a loss of property means we lose everything else to tyranny by definition. You can’t save a single unborn child if a bureaucrat or the taxman owns the fruits of your labor, and therefore owns you and your time. This is powerful common ground.

Politically, the establishment ignores the fact that Republicans win by running social conservatives. Social conservatives often ignore the fact that these candidates won by stressing other issues. Reagan’s foci were the greatness of the free market and the evils of the communism, though his intellectual consistency was morally based. The historic wins in 1994 and 2010 included mostly social conservative candidates, but neither election had an emphasis on social issues, other than the moral component of limited government.

In other words, what all of us have in common is an interest in property rights, regardless of what our individual hot button issues are. Social liberals are being naïve when they discount the fiscal cost of moral depravity, and social conservatives are naïve to ignore the moral cost of fiscal depravity. Pastors enjoying tax-exempt status are being hypocritical and intellectually bankrupt when they impugn “fiscal only conservatives” or sit out elections. The Bible talks a lot about the moral component of money, and even the atheist Ayn Rand recognizes it. We must all recognize it, or we’ll have a nation with no morals and no money. And yet, this divide threatens our ability to ever beat the liberals.

This is reference to an editorial run in Canada Free Press. The Canadians got it right.! Too bad half of the so called conservatives talk show hosts I’ve been listening to can’t seem to be willing to connect the dots to what a heavy hand his imperious highness played in this example of socialist justice meted out to serve the policies of the state . Turning this into a show trial replete with wall to wall tv coverage.

.For certain since the not guilty verdict has been rendered the facts of this case are still being concealed like the media not using such as pictures of both side by side where they look like cousins.

The mixed area of modest dwellings that Zimmerman was a “watch captain” in is a mini US melting pot which includes a number of black familys . They were struggling with single and groups of young blacks on the prowl., In some instances armed, preying on homeowners.in his area..That area wasn’t even examinined because it wouldn’t fit their agenda , if true journalisim existed, wouldn’t support any racial assertion..It might even explain Zimmerman’s action taken during his surveilance of Martin . In many watch areas that’s done frequently when the subject disappears from view they may leave their vehicle and continue surveilance on foot.. ....

Even after learning the shooter was a staunch Obama supporter, not Jewish, and a very dark skinned “hispanic” Obama did nothing to curtail the hyperbole or tone down his edict creating this as a racist episode.and of course ignored Zimmerman’s defence of a homeless black maltreated by a local police officer which resulted in the disciplining of the offending officer. The socialists controlling the media propaganda machine oblidged.. They began claiming the exclusive “gated” neighborhood watch captain was a “white hispanic” . used a picture of a 12 year old Martin instead of the 6 foot 165 pound person he was vs the smaller 140 pound lttle fatty neighborhood watch captain. Worse yet allowed his US Attorney General to use questionable activities to promote a show trial and ignored using a threat of prosecution to black militant groups threatening the watch captain’s life.

Meanwhile attacks by black groups on selected happless white victims which wind in their death get ignored by the mainline socialist messengers MSM service and black on black killings many of the age of the so called victim is likewise same-o same-o.

Do not confuse todays politicians and their ahearants in the press and academia as followers of “Liberalism”. . These are die hard God denying I’m right you’re wrong socialists incapable of independent thinking running todays media.. Devising political campaigns of lies and manipulated inflamatory languange disguised as “news or reliable information” designed to destroy any opponent or group to what is edict-ed by their leader. You must wind up goose-stepping in unison protecting the collective otherwise we will through the use of government step on you and squash you like some insect.. Until the quashers are quashed this will continue..

The regime started this fire before they found out that Zimmerman is not a Jew they could profile. When they discovered the black teen thug wannabe had tried to beat to death an Hispanic man, they counted on the fecklessness of the republicants to not raise the Truth about the real crime. The regime wanted to attack gun rights and stand your ground and they calculated that the republicants were too cowardly to point out forcefully that George Zimmeramn is and was then an obviously Hispanic man whom skittlebrain was trying to beat to death. After all these decades, the republicants still do not fully comprehend the divide and conquer regimen and how to combat it.

You are absolutely right. The same leftists who would abolish the Second Amendment by stealth immediately recognized the Stand Your Ground law as a bulwark of the Second Amendment and so they will be remorseless in their attempts to repeal it.

If they can deny the right to self-defense in all its forms they will have won the battle over the Second Amendment. As a matter of fact, from their point of view it is an easier, cheaper, and more comprehensive solution.

The fault in the thinking of those who would pass legislation restricting the right to bear and keep arms is that as they do so they are making law-abiding citizens more vulnerable to violence done to them by lawbreakers. Their ultimate solution is to eliminate guns completely but they cannot say so. Meanwhile, they are confronted with the anomaly of increasing gun violence by the very means they advance to reduce it. They know what they are doing, they know their ultimate goal (to grab all guns) but they cannot sell that notion for political reasons so they must find a way to bridge the gap until they can completely social engineer society to their liking.

Depriving us of the right to self-defense is a silver bullet which solves that problem for them with a legislative stroke-or even better with the stroke of a judicial pen.

What wonderful people... they were only looking for bargains, by 'BARTERING Goods'!

Bartering Goods = 'Shoplifting' for the exchange of not setting the stores on FIRE.

What we need to do is to ask ANTI-AMERICAN blacks if they would like to have a FIRST CLASS TICKET to Africa. We could get rid of them...

I don't understand Trayvon's parents. Most parents, when they go through the horrific loss of a child, want to do something that saves other children.

They would serve their son's memory in a positive way if they'd use this as an opportunity to educate other parents about the dangers of these drug cocktails created from over-the-counter foods and medications. Or maybe reminding everyone walking around a city or suburb at night to stay on sidewalks, carry a flashlight, and identify yourself willingly. Those are things people do to stay safe, even in the safest of neighborhoods.

They asked for a trial by jury, they got a trial by jury. Looks like what the rabble-rousers really wanted was a lynching.

this mother was not in Travons life she gave him up when he was a small boy..READ THIS-

Her voice shaking with pain and tears in her eyes, Stanley explained that she had helped raise Trayvon since he was 3-years-old, and that he was at her home with his father and her daughters “90 percent” of the time. this was his step mother..http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3037559/posts

The mother and father didn’t waste time making money on the dead boy..

SANFORD — Trayvon Martin’s parents have settled a wrongful-death claim for an amount thought to be more than $1 million against the homeowners association of the Sanford subdivision where their teenage son was killed.
