Chicago toughens ban on assault weapons amid violence
http://news.yahoo.com ^ | july 17, 2013 | Renita Young

The Chicago city council voted unanimously on Wednesday to toughen its existing ban on assault weapons by adding more types of guns to the banned list and imposing stiffer fines for violations of the law.

The nation's third-largest city is facing a wave of gang-related gun violence. Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Chicago police have struggled to reverse the trend that has persisted even after they put more police on patrol in some neighborhoods.

While official statistics show Chicago's murder rate has subsided somewhat from last year, injuries and deaths are common from gun violence, particularly in predominantly African-American and Hispanic neighborhoods. Violence is usually higher during the summer when the weather is warmer.

Chicago acted quickly on gun control to beat a deadline set by the state of Illinois for local governments to set tougher gun laws before a state law allowing the carrying of concealed weapons goes into effect.

Emanuel said the tougher laws would improve public safety, but others questioned whether the laws will be effective.

Well that ought to work. Betcha there are no more murders in Chicago this summer. It was only a matter of prohibiting the really bad guns.

“No legislation, no matter how strict, will keep weapons out of the wrong hands. We all know that,” said Chicago City Councilman Robert Fioretti, who voted for the gun ban.”

But the laws will keep the guns out of the law abiding Citizens hands, thereby unconstitutionally subverting their right of self defense.

Let’s try this: put a ring of steel around every major city where the ‘urban yutes’ and welfare queens are running rampant. Airdrop in a butt-load of AKs and let them finish each other off. Wait till the shooting stops. Repeat as needed.

I would be interested in knowing what the breakdown is; how many thugs versus how many law abiding citizens who could benefit from having a CCW AND would entertain having one.

Call me a pessimist, but I don’t think there are too many “innocent” bystanders who just didn’t have the means to protect themselves...

As long as Chicago has elderly black ladies wearing church hats, liberal Chicago politicians will continue to make a big deal about making illegal guns even more illegal.

That's the only demographic that big city liberal gun-grabbers still receive positive response on the issue of gun control from anymore: Elderly black women. Church hats.

they should try arresting people....like these roving gangs that take the train into the city to cause havoc...

I know that's a small thing, but set examples, remove some of the rif raf, and things would improve...

there going have to profile though....

I like it! Call it the ‘PatriotsBlood-TedNugent resolution’.
I’m watching a ‘Cops’ episode on tasering bad guys. They just shot a non-English speaking, drug-dealing undocumented immigrant with pockets full of cash and drugs.
He understood ‘Taser.’
May I suggest as an addendum to your resolution, also airdrop hungry, pizzed-off pitbulls and rottweilers.
I don’t think ‘aggrieved America’ has any real idea of how sick and tired the rest of us are with their bravo Sierra.

others questioned whether the laws will be effective.

Include me in that group. In fact, I'd like to see some evidence in, say, a year. And if the law has NOT proven effective (and I'm betting it won't), then it sunsets and Mayor Rahm can look for some other way to infringe on the Constitution.

I’ve had the same thought. Only I’d drop a weapons cache at one end of town, and a food stash at the other. Then open the cages and let the animals fight.

omg the criminals are really going to be in trouble now. they are really scared about new banned guns now.

you know how scared all the murder and assault laws have stopped them all from violence, these gun restrictions will scare them’so much more than murder and assault laws do.

So Chicago's politicians are worried about mass machine gunnings from “da boyz in da hood”?

What the pols ought to do is cordon off the worst neighborhoods, give the locals guns and ammo, wait three weeks (or until the gunfire stops), then arrest the survivors for murder.

Wow, thank you, being in the same sentence with Ted Nugent is an honor.

My wife and I had an early start today--the ADT alarm went off at 3:21 AM with an intrusion detection on the first floor. My wife call 911(and was put on hold), while I retrieved the trusty Mossberg from under the bed, racked in a load of 00 buck, and waited around the corner of our bedroom behind the locked door.

Eventually the police showed up, and the 911 call taker said "The police are at your residence, please meet the officer at the front door" I replied, "Nope! Please have the officer conduct a full perimeter search of the structure to make sure no one gained entry." After that, I did let the officer in and had him conduct a room-by-room search. The officer didn't find any evidence of a break-in, and the ADT tech is coming over tomorrow to check things out.

Oddly enough, I was very calm through the entire incident.

Solution: limit access of law-abiding citizens to firearms.
