Snowden ‘Immune’ to Torture

NSA leaker Edward Snowden is boasting that he’s immune from torture and can never be broken, even by the world’s most experienced interrogators.

He made that odd claim in an equally strange e-mail exchange with former Sen. Gordon Humphrey (R-NH), The Guardian newspaper of Britain reported.

Humphrey wrote a supportive note to Snowden, thanking him for doing the “right thing in exposing what I regard as massive violation of the United States Constitution.”

The former lawmaker’s well-wishing letter came with a caveat: “Provided you have not leaked information that would put in harm’s way any intelligence agent.”

Snowden wrote back and promised that no one could steal or force secrets out of him — not even the Chinese or other torturers.

Torture? Wouldn’t that entail being made to wear jockey shorts over his face? Hell, I could that standing on my head!

I think he is an idealist. He is a lot less flaky then all the people who choose and chose to keep their mouth shut. I don't think it is any delusion of grandeur as much as his personal feelings of honor and arming himself against such tactics if they were occur. I admire his idealism and his personal discipline. Many do not possess it.

Single handedly this young man has gonads that many conservatives or libertarians do not have in their wildest fantasies. Even you sit hidden by the guise of Greetings_Puny_Humans on a computer. He risked it all for a believe and an ideal.

“..Nobody who just sits behind a desk would make that claim...”

sounds “out of character”...

maybe an attempt to get his host country’s ire up (?)

good point

Just lock him in “It’s a Small World” at Disney World for an hour. He’ll be crying like a baby...

I have to agree that Snowden's getting a little full of himself but I think what he said can be translated as follows:

1. The files I took are encrypted in a way that even the most powerful computers at NSA or anywhere else cannot break them.

2. The passwords/keys are not held by me but by others I trust.

3. So torturing me won't work.

The first two items are almost certainly true. What he claims is possible and having the knowledge of how to do it is pretty widespread. I bet there are some Freepers that could explain the process.

The claim that torturing won't work I would question.

One the other hand, ‘Gay Days’ at Disney may be to his liking.

I’d talk if they started playing rap music...anything but rap music.

I have not, but I’m sure you’re right. I understand the Russians were big into cutting off fingers, but that may be a bit barbaric for the refined, effective KGB methods.

This guy’s an idiot.

Make him listen to Justin Bieber or Usher while on a hook-up date with Helen Thomas, he’ll tell you all you want to know.

What a goof. Everyone breaks eventually. Its just a question of how long and what state your mind will be in afterwards. I bet this guy would sing like a canary at the sight of a pair of piers.
