PING~A~LING
I don’t agree with those who rail against material things and say that owning stuff is inherently evil. And I have to admit that I’m a consumer—often tempted to pad my pile of treasures with items I think I need.
But I do recognize that one of the dangers of owning a lot of stuff is that it can lead to spiritual loss. The more we have and the more we feel as if we have all we need, the more prone we are to forget our need for God and even our desire for Him. Yet, ironically, everything we have comes ultimately from God, who “gives us richly all things to enjoy” (1 Tim. 6:17).
Sadly, our enjoyment of God’s provisions might just mean that we end up loving the gift and forgetting the Giver. This is why, when God was getting ready to give His people a life full of bounty in the Promised Land of good and plenty, He warned, “Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God” (Deut. 8:11).
If God has allowed you to enjoy material abundance, remind yourself where it came from. In fact, all of us, whether rich in this world’s goods or not, have much to be thankful for. Let’s heed the warning not to forget the Lord and praise Him for His abundant goodness.

We have had internet slow issues all day, and as we’ve been trying to test the new system. We just got out of a meeting...go/no go is at 8am in the morning.
Keep your fingers crossed. There was not a single “go” in the whole room. Someone said it’s finally more stable and one of the higher ups said they had to take it down at least 2 times today. *sigh*
And the live date is August 2nd and we’ve had no training.
AND the worst issue....payroll, that would be my group, CANNOT print checks!
We should always thank GOD for everything we receive. And acknowledge HIS gift. I even thank HIM for the green lights, going and coming from work when I'm in a hurry.
Camille Saint-Saens could write fine chamber music. In his later years he wrote a little trifle for mixed ensemble titled “The Carnival of the Animals”, which was first performed by his friends at a home concert. He refused to publish it, considering it beneath him. After his death it would be orchestrated, and Ogden Nash would write verses to go between the movements. The chamber version is rarely heard, but it will be performed at a special children’s concert of the Seattle Chamber Music Festival that will not be broadcast, unfortunately.
It starts with “Introduction and Royal March of the Lion”.
At 2:23, “Hens and Cocks”, a tip of the hat to Rameau.
At 3:12, “Wild Asses”. (No smutty jokes, please!)
At 4:10, “Tortoises”, a parody of Offenbach’s can-can from “Orpheus in Hades”, played very, very slowly.
At 6:38, “Elephants”, a Berlioz and Mendelssohn parody waltz scored for string bass and piano.
At 8:18, “Kangaroos”. This sets the table for one of Camille’s most famous short pieces.
At 9:25, “Aquarium”. This has been used in a number of movies, most notoriously in Terence Malick’s 1978 “Days of Heaven”, where Ennio Morricone used it throughout the film without giving credit to Saint-Saens. It’s eerie and absolutely haunting.
At 12:05, “Persons With Long Ears”, referring to music critics as asses. It’s a solo piece for two violins.
At 12:51, “The Cuckoo in the Depths of the Forest”. The piano sets up the clarinet for two notes played offstage.
At 15:37, “Aviary”. The flute does birdsongs with piano and string accompaniment.
At 17:11, “Pianists”. Two pianists play scales out of synch with each other. There is some great physical comedy in this video.
At 19:39, “Fossils”. The xylophone plays the bones of dinosaurs in a museum. In the middle of this, the piano quotes Mozart and the clarinet quotes Rossini.
At 21:23, “The Swan”, a piece for piano and cello that is his most famous work. It’s written for little ballerinas everywhere.
At 25:26, the Finale, where all the animals join in the fun.
