Florida Gov. Rick Scott held an emergency meeting Thursday night with pro-Trayvon Martin protesters that staged a sit-in outside his office to demand an end to Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law.
Scott, who has been under fire from activists in the wake of George Zimmerman’s acquittal in Martin’s death, met with protesters at the State Capitol and reminded them that he agrees with Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law, but that he’s calling for a “statewide day of prayer for unity” to help people of all persuasions move beyond the verdict.

More than 100 protesters from the group Dream Defenders, which previously coordinated with a unit of the Obama administration’s Justice Department, descended upon the Florida state capitol Wednesday demanding to meet with Governor Scott to request that a special legislative session be held to repeal the state’s Stand Your Ground law, which Scott supports. Scott, who is facing tough re-election odds in 2014, initially showed no sign of desiring a meeting with protesters, but eventually caved in at 9 pm ET Thursday night, at the end of Day 2 of the protesters’ sit-in in the lobby of Scott’s office....

The GOP certainly doesn’t represent me. That’s why I registered as an Independent back in 2007 and have not had one regret.
Their leaders don’t care. They want to disarm white people. They don’t care about criminals with guns, only white people. For them Zimmerman is close enough.
I read the article, which was clearly biased. But, I did not see any caving by Gov. Scott on anything. He supports the verdict, is not calling a special session of the legislature, and supports Stand Your Ground which is what this group wants repealed. It’s irrelevant that SYG was not part of GZ’s defense. What is relevant is what these leftists want, and Gov. Scott is not giving them that. It’s his duty to represent all Floridians and listen to their views. But, he is standing his ground and adhering to conservative principles.
So I don’t believe the whining on this thread that somehow Gov. Scott is now a turncoat.

Scrape away the idiocy and opportunism, and what remains is a lotta hurt.
It saddens me that many Blacks truly believe the incident and judicial outcome was a matter of racist persecution. Perhaps prayer will help to alleviate the burden of distrust.

Mebbe they should just lobby the legislature if they want to reopen the streets to thuggery.
the legislature would be more likely to hand them their hind ends on a platter, however. they believe it more opportune to keep pecking at the place they know is weak.
